TLHLIM

I’m sure you care about the downstream effects (causes?) from the significant decline of marriage.

Less sex
Less children
Loneliness and depression epidemic
More strife between the genders

Whether Joe and Susie (or John) get married or live together, I also don’t really care. But we have a problem with Joe and Susie (or John) even meeting each other in the first place.
Your point is a very strong one, but I do think there’s a distinction to be explored between the decline of marriage itself and the rise in those trends. As you allusion to, there’s a real question of the causal relationship here. The strife between the genders in particular seems unlikely to be fixable through an increase in marriages, all things equal.

I suspect the underlying issue is social media and the shift away from many in-person interactions. The echo chambers people find themselves in are major drivers of anti-social behavior and rigidity, and I think romantically relationships form easier with proximity and physicality that is hard to mirror online. There’s a sense of ease I feel just being next to my wife sometimes, and there are so many subtle moments in expressions and tone in the course of a relationship that are not replicable online. We’re more connected than ever, but I think some of that added connection is harmful to this particular type of relationship.

Once that first domino falls, I think it becomes a genuinely slippery slope. If you’re not able to communicate and compromise, you’re just going to re-enforce your own assumptions and grow lonely and bitter.

Let’s be completely honest here, even if Trump didn’t recognize the President of Finland that’s just not that big of a deal, as the President of Finland is simply not that important.

But really this is just a large, important meeting and basically everyone has had a moment like this at work where someone was shockingly close and you didn’t realize it. Trump provides us with countless opportunities every day to question him, this ain’t one of them.

Does she think the youths will just continue to not use their phones outside of school, or that schools exist in some sort of portal where the real truth is downloaded to their cell phones while they’re there?

I’m all for protecting civil liberties of adults and kids alike, but if we’re going to insist on them getting an education, I don’t think it’s an infringement on their rights to get rid of distractions.

I don’t trust the Trump Administration either, but let’s not pretend that John Bolton is the line in the sand that shows the purges are imminent. He’s a mid-level official who was critical of Trump a few years ago. We should absolutely not just uncritically accept the government’s word without evidence, but we needn’t confuse lawfare with the end of the Republic without even knowing what Bolton did or didn’t do.

Mamdani embarrasses himself not being able to a bench press.

That’s rough video.
I was actually just coming in to post about everybody sharing this in the THRLIM thread lol. Mamdani, who clearly doesn’t lift weights, decides to engage positively with the people he was visiting, despite almost certainly knowing he can’t lift. It’s actually a refreshing campaign moment in an age where candidates have such artificial experiences with the public, and the fact that the right-wing grifter sphere is dunking on it is silly.
