New Manager Discussion

Terry McGurik was in charge of the Braves well before Cox retired and he's still at the helm.

Also, culture can continue through the tenures of different leaders. In fact businesses tend to hire leaders that fit the company's culture. The Braves have a very defined culture that they actively implement throughout the organization. So individuals already steeped in that culture will be seen as better fits than outsiders. I'd be very surprised if we hired someone who hadn't had some experience with the club.

I think Weiss will be attractive to the Braves leadership as someone who already knows how the Braves do things and who will provide continuity. Whether Weiss is a good choice is an entirely different question. I just think he's the odds on favorite.
Terry McGuirk is 74 now, and doesn't appear to be anything more than a bean counter at this point. I doubt he has any meaningful input here.

Anthopoulos pretty much scrubbed the player development and minor league managing and coaching staffs when he came on board. It didn't happen overnight, but he brought in guys that weren't steeped in what the Braves had been doing previously.

I still think Gibbons is in the mix having worked with Anthopoulos both in Toronto and (briefly) with the Braves. He's anything but kindly grandpa and maybe that's what Anthopoulos thinks the Braves need. Cox had the advantage of Schuerholz sitting on Ted Turner's fat wallet so he could always play the long game knowing that the talent was going to hold up over 162 games as long as they played smart baseball. Braves still have a pretty big payroll but have a couple of lunkheads in the line-up and I don't think Snitker knew how to keep everyone accountable and instill any sense of urgency.

Jimy Williams is in the great beyond but he was only 81 went he exited the mortal coil. Could have been a candidate?
Since I do not have the opportunity to apologize to him, I'm going to have to vicariously apologize to you, 50.

So I don't know why, but it always confused the bejeebers out of me that his variant of Jimmy had only one M 😮‍💨

I agree with all of this especially the last sentence. Whoever is brought in is unfortunately going to have to understand how to smartly and forcefully coddle Acuna. It doesn't appear Snitker ever figured it out so he was totally hands off with him.

I dont think Weiss is as much of a favorite as some places think he is. AA wants to put his own stamp on things and Weiss is the same as what we've had.

I said on here months ago not to get too excited about the potential of Snitker retiring because he’d just be replaced by Weiss or some other hometown shlub. I am not as bullish on it as I was back then, but I would not be surprised one bit if that is what happens. Until they give me a reason to believe the caveman manager days are behind us, I’ll continue to be pessimistic about the next choice. We all know Schumacher is the correct choice here, by a fairly wide margin, but I don’t see it happening.

Please prove me wrong AA

I think Skip is the preferred choice, but I just don’t see the Rangers letting him go

I think the Rangers not announcing Schumaker is weird. They brought him in the take over for Bochy. That's a good sign for us imo. Maybe Shumaker was contacted by AA or is interested in the Braves job instead

Nothing groundbreaking just thought some would be interested in reading

Ross said Thursday, "I'd love to manage again."

"Obviously, Atlanta would be amazing, but there's nothing to really elaborate on," Ross said, adding he realized he has been mentioned in speculative lists. I don't want to talk about something that doesn't have any legs yet. Hopefully, my name pops up, but we will wait and see on that."

There could be worse options than Ross, but almost anything is better than Snit. The Braves don't need a tactical mastermind. Merely upgrading to a competent tactician should be good enough for this team to play up to expectations.

Ross would have a good handle on using one catcher to catch and the other one that’s been hurt for three years to DH…. Just a thought….
