Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

One other note: do we just not think taxes drive up prices any more? We might basically all be net tax payers once you consider their impact on the cost of goods and services that we purchase. Could one submit their receipts at the end of the year with a detailed fiscal analysis of the corporate tax rates on inflation?

So the ederly can't vote? Stay at home Moms can't vote? College Students can't vote? Newly turned 18 year olds can't vote?

Yeah, I don't see that happening.

Social security is the government giving you back your own money. I dont know about you but I want the elderly who were successful in life to be voting. Not the deadbeat who can't even run their own lives. I went to college with no government assistance. Why would stay at home mom's vote? Or newly turned 18 people? I was never on government assistance when I turned 18. Quite frankly I would rather die than take government assistance. I dont wantctgeir help. I dont need their help. What I need is for the government to leave me alone unless I am harming someone or their property.

We talked about the Boston Tea Party a lot during our weekend trip there and it brought up the whole “no taxation without representation” motto. Maybe it’s time to update it. “No representation without taxation.” If you aren’t a net tax payer, you also aren’t a voter. People who aren’t paying for the pizza shouldn’t be dictating the toppings.
Nearly every single person is a net tax payer. Unless they're not working or they're not working. So is your logic if you're a single income household the spouse of the bread winner doesn't get to vote? Or the 18 year old child of parents who want them to mainly focus on school and school activities doesn't get to vote?

Does this also mean that non-citizens get to vote. My friend who's a Greencard Immigrant but non-citizen (wants the option to go back to the UK if he needs it) now gets to vote because he's paid a bunch more taxes than a lot of people I know. Or should non-immigrants be exempt from income taxes?

Voting is a right. International vacations are not. Even with IDs people should be able to place provisional ballots with a finger print and photo of them taken to confirm identity.

It's the point that that people should not expect the government to cater directly to them. We have to have a reasonable set of standards and people should not expect the government to drop what their doing just to fix their specific issue.

Again, we know voting dates ahead of time. If you want to participate, do what you need to do in the time you know you need to do it in.

There are problems to this logic, but I don't think you're far from the mark. I do think some states absolutely are better than others at keeping their voters informed and prepared and I think it's intentional.

Fair enough. I would take the average a person pays in sales tax and apply that to everyone.

That's pretty unfair. Not to mention the amount of people who are injured and can't work. Should a cancer patient who hasn't worked in a year be robbed the right to vote?

And did you really ask why a stay at home would vote? You can't be serious with that.

The scariest phrase in the English language is "we are the government and we are here to help you". O want the government to stop trying to fix shit. They just keep making shit worse.

I understand that dems benefit from poor and dumb people voting, but absent of the political advantage, why would anyone want those people voting?

Because they deserve to maybe?

Whether or not I think highly of their ability to make smart political choices is irrelevant to whether or not they deserve that right to make those choices. That is literally what democracy is.

If an 18 year old proudly proclaims that he wants communism to replace capitalism, do you WANT that person to vote?

I didn't say they dont have rights.

I asked why you would "want" a dumb person having influence over "your" rights
You’re actively trying to take one of them away with this proposal, and it’s the one that inevitably leads to many more of them being ripped away. We already have socioeconomic classes that influence people’s lives. We do not need to add a new layer wherein your rights as a citizen are explicitly tied to it.

Thethe is neither poor nor dumb in the traditional sense, but he's just as easily manipulated as any poor or mentally challenged person. If high IQ individuals like thethe can be sold on all the lie,s why do you think low IQ and the poor be any differentt?

I meant why would stay at home mom's not be able to vote. Their husband paying the bills doesnt make them dependent on the government .

As for cancer patients are they all getting government handouts? There's also context. If you got cancer from smoking for 50 years I dont think you should be making life decisions for the whole country. I grew up poor. Never made more than 40k in any year until this year and in my early 40s I have investments worth over 200k. And I did that while smoking pot daily. With my recent ventures I am looking at retiring at 50 and I was making 15$ an hour to start the year. I actually could have taken disability when I was 18 and never had to work a day in my life. I believe in helping those who are born disabled. I dont believe in helping those who fuck around their whole life then cry when shit goes bad.

If an 18 year old proudly proclaims that he wants communism to replace capitalism, do you WANT that person to vote?
If a wealthy 40-year-old wants to eliminate a bunch of laws and programs that protect the vulnerable, do I get to choose if he votes too?

I know the history, but we do need a basic IQ level for voting. Dumb people aren't exclusive to any side.
