Who do we miss from Teixeira trade again? All are average players or frequently injured except Elvis who is speed and not much else (see poor OPS/OBP and declining at age 25). It would be nice to have a live arm like Feliz at the end of the bullpen but those seem to grow on trees nowadays.

I think the cardinals expect more from Taveras.

He wasn't the worst when he was signed. And yes, those teams DID want him. Wren gave him the most. But the Phillies offered $12 mil a year. He took a much bigger nosedive than any of them and no one could have seen that coming. Bourn wanted more than BJ got but Boras priced him out.

I see your point, but the overall point is that those prospects had more value than just Tex when they were all dealt.

Lots of possibilities could have happened had we not made that trade. For one any or all of those guys could have been moved for someone who didn't stay here for a year. Also keeping Elvis means that he could of been moved to 2nd for Andrelton (or vise versa) so no Uggla trade that has really hurt the team. It would have been a huge domino effect.

It really is amazing. All of those GMs were right around that price for him. Which absolutely matters when we're talking about it in the context that we are. A few GMs that needed a CF felt he was worth right around that, just like Wren did. So why doesn't that matter? Only Wren is the idiot? Beats me.

Whether we miss those players or not is irrelevant. Those players were (and still are in fact) worth a lot in terms of trade value. We traded away 7 yrs of 4 future all stars and in return we received one calendar yr of Tex. That very same package could have been used in a trade in the off-season to acquire one of Miggy Cabrera, Dan Haren, Johan Santana, Adrian Gonzalez, Roy Halladay, Zach Greinke, etc.

It isn't merely who we gave up, but the net value of what we gave up and what we got back. There is a reason this trade is considered one of the worst in recent memory (not just by Braves' fans).

They all saw the same player. In hindsight it's easy to say "Wow what idiots." But at the time, no one could have foreseen the epic collapse he's had. Some regression? Ok, fine. This bad? Obviously no GM that would have given him above $5 million could have predicted this.
 
Could just be precautionary to ensure he doesn't get injured between now and the 31st. But likely a trade has been made.

I'm gonna go with the Marlins.

We could have traded for any of those players (as we did for Tex) and none would be guaranteed to re-sign with us long term. You're naive to think the Marlins trade us Miggy, there is a reason they dumped us Uggla.

Who of that trade (in fact) still has trade value besides Elvis that is anywhere comparable to what it was?

The backend of that whole disaster was what we got for Tex when we dealt him.
Andrus, Salty, Feliz, Harrison and whoever else are never worth 1.5 seasons of Tex, Casey Kotchman, and Stephen Marek.

You can't get talent if you aren't willing to give it up, no matter how short term the control is (I think we only had Tex for a year anyways).
My only point is hypothetical other trades aside, I do not miss those other players being on the Braves. Andrus would be nice at 2B but could we afford him for 8/120 after this year and would we want him with a 260/310/340 line?

The point is all of those players would have been better fits and were controlled longer than Tex. It was a poor trade that are still feeling the effects of.

Why wouldn't the Marlins have traded us Miggy? The package we traded for Tex was at least equal or better than what Marlins received for Miggy. And they would have ended up much better off taking the package of spects we gave up for Tex. None of the guys they received from Detroit panned to anything for the Marlins.

I never said they were currently worth the same, just they still are worth quite a bit. And that's true. Salty is an above average catcher, Harrison has probably tripled his trade value for that time (which wasn't that much). Feliz is worth way more now than he was then. The only player who didn't end up an above average major leaguer from that trade was Beau Jones.
