Braves sniffing around on Markakis; Official 4 years 44 million.

I think the Markakis signing pretty much eliminates any chance of extenting Justin.

The chances went from probably 2% to 1% on the extension. Wasn't going to happen regardless. What it did do is increase the chances of Justin being traded to virtually 100%.

So we turned 1 year of Heyward and 2 of Walden into 4 of Miller, 6 of Jenkins, and 4 of Markakis. Well done.

What Hewyard did his first couple years in the league is more relevant than what he's done the past 2 years? On what planet? How does anyone try and argue that? I guess what BJ did his first couple years in the league is more relevant than the dumpster fire he's been the past 2 years.

"He's a poor baserunner because he's slow as hell... I watch the Orioles"... wow, you convinced me...

Then go watch video of him dude. He struggles to score from 2nd quite often. Or watch him run after fly balls and tells me he's not slow lol. The numbers support what I see. You are just a blind homer caught up in national perception of players.

It's funny because everyone that is defending the signing and haven't actually watched Markakis over the last 3 years will be the same people destroying him in June when they realized it's not 2009 anymore.

You are better than this. They gave Palmiero a gold glove for playing 16 games at 1st one year. Derek Jeter has multiple gold gloves. Markakis is -26 in defensive runs saves the since like 2009. He was +1 in 2014. Seems like a fluke to me since he was way in the negative the previous years. He is not a good defender anymore. And please look at park adjusted stats. Camden Yards is a very good hitters park. Turner Field is not. They are nowhere close offensively.

Exactly, Markakis has consistently shown bad range in the outfield every season too. If you add BJ in center and Gattis in left we'll have the all-range team, lol.

Funny that the Orioles fans are upset he's leaving... I would assume they've watched him more than any of us, wouldn't you?

I hate John Hart. Don't really like Markakis. But I don't think this deal is the end of the world. However I will say I just really don't get Hart's plan. I had no faith when we named him and have far less now.

Actually to be fair, I think there is a clear plan that is being executed. I don't particularly care for it. But the plan is to cash in on the remaining year that we had of Heyward and Justin Upton under control for as much value as possible, with much of it spread out over future years. And to use the funds freed up in 2015 from trading those two to replace them with Markakis and I would guess one more similar mid-level free agent (could be a pitcher or hitter depending on how the market plays out).

It is not the worst plan in the world. But I would have gone a different direction, focusing more on moving a bad contract even if it meant sacrificing some assets or up front money. I think there is a dog that hasn't barked that no one is focusing on, which is that Hart's plan is betting heavily on a bounce back year by one of Melvin or CJ. It is the unstated gamble. Not a terrible gamble, but I would prefer to cut my losses if at all possible. Maybe there is no market at all for Melvin and CJ. Only those in the know would know.

Amusing that I get called a homer by the Heyward boo hoo crowd.

You're including Heyward's 27 homer, .814 OPS year... I think its obvious he's not that player offensively anymore. It's not like the last 2 years is a small sample size.

How is it not obvious? He posted the same WRC+ in 2013 as that 27 homer 814 OPS season. Yes 2014 he regressed due to his power. I guess it's foolish of me to expect a guy entering his prime to regain that. But even if you want to look at the last 2 seasons. Heyward was a 114 WRC+ hitter. Markakis was below average at 97.

They are attached him cause he's been there his whole career, talk to a reasonable one. My cousin, who's an O's fan texted me "LOL you paid Markakis what???"

Why didn't we just sign Aoki for cheaper? Js and co wouldve gotten the ultimate endorsement from Dayton and Ned.

Well your cousin's text sure just swayed me... holy crap, that's huge news.
