Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

This makes zero sense. Olivera could Dan Uggla it tomorrow. Past 30 even the best can collapse. Bird has talent but he's not a blue chipper. And an injured reliever. Wood for that is overpaying. Peraza and Johnson is mindboggling.

Wood for Olivera

Peraza for Bird

Everything else for the comp pick and Paco.

Its a big if but if Olivera is as good as the scouts are saying then you have a legit impact bat at peanuts. That affords the Braves so much damn flexbility to make some moves.

I personally have always felt Wood is on the path to another TJ surgery. Until then he is a borderline TOR pitcher. I think Olivera will be an impact player in the big leagues for far longer than Wood.

A 30 year old will be impact player longer than a 24 year old because you have a gut feeling the 24 year old gets hurt? Despite him proving himself in majors and the 30 year old having done nothing, is injured now, and has a blood condition?

If we were playing a video game and turned injuries off then the deal is absolutely horrid. If you believe that Wood is headed for his second TJ surgery then I think selling at this point for a guy many scouts have said will be an impact middle of the order bat is a good idea. Would I have liked to get more? Of course..but it takes two teams to make a deal and I'm sure the Braves have been pimping Wood since the start of the season.

What does proving himself in the majors have anything to do with the potential of him getting hurt or not?

Yes, but Olivera is an equal health risk. And he's like 6 years older.

He's 21, almost major league ready, plays a premium position, and can fly. Again, I wouldn't trade Wood alone for that package. Adding in Peraza is absurd.

And also not getting an impact young stud prospect. Add De Leon and Barnes instead of Paco and Bird, and I'm ok with this. Not happy but ok. For the package we are moving, you have to get Puig pederson Seager or Urias, or you lose miserably.

If it's Olivera they better take the entire signing bonus. Then it's 6 years and 30 million only. That's a pretty good deal if he can just be 1 WAR from a cost perspective.

But you have to get more. For Wood and Peraza you need 2 ELite guys and zach Bird.

Feels like 3 years of wood and 6 years of Peraza for 4 years of a 3B hitting 250 with 15 HR, a pick, and a guy that sounds a lot like Folty

Sure, if that is how the deal turns out then its a big ball of crap. But if Olivera is a legit impact bat and Wood has his second Tommy John surgery then we will look back on this deal and praise Hart for his foresight.

Absolutely nothing. Same as the worth or your gut. Your point is its a good trade bc he MIGHT get hurt like every other pitcher.

Dude, Olivera's health concerns are far more severe at this point than Wood's. Wood isn't hurt, so if the Braves allowed the Dodgers to value him as though he already is...well, that's why it's awful.

Maybe I need to do more research on his medical ailments but I never think a hitter is an equal health risk as long as its not a back injury.
