2015 WINTER MEETINGS THREAD

Payroll update.

When the Braves entered this offseason, they were expected to have $25-30 million to spend. They have spent approximately $9 million via the free-agent signings of A.J. Pierzynski, Bud Norris, Gordon Beckham and Jim Johnson. They also gained $6 million in flexibility when they traded Cameron Maybin.
But though the Braves have never revealed specific payroll numbers, it is believed they have approximately $13 million left to spend. Hart indicated that the depletion of the original projection might have been influenced by the club's decision to allot some of their funds toward the Draft and the international market, within which they are expected to be major players in July.

Braves talked with Snakes Monday about a number of deals.

The D-backs were one of the first teams to show interest in Miller, and they have had nearly daily conversations with the Braves over the past week. The two teams talked again on Monday about a number of potential deals, including some that included Teheran, whose struggles this past season have put him in a position where he would not bring as significant of a return as Miller.

If the Braves add minor pieces like they are talking about now, they are once again going to be fighting for the top draft pick. This team has zero chance of being anything better than a bottom 5 team in 2016. I wouldn't be surprised if the offense was even worse than last year, which is extremely depressing to think about.

Who are they suddenly going to spend money on in 2017? Hard to say, but the poor FA class surely isn't a wise place to utilize that cash.

Heyman: #Cubs are so irrate with Kris Bryant's grievance filed against MLB regarding service time, they are considering making him available as a centerpiece to acquire young controllable high upside starting pitching.

If the Braves could swing Pollock... that would be a major bridge towards competitiveness in my opinion.

I would try to get Pollock and Soler... dump Markakis, and start developing the young pitchers we used all of our assets on last winter.

A lineup with Pollock, Soler, Freeman, & Olivera (?) is a decent foundation.

It would probably take a ridiculous deal to get him. I'd trade Shelby and virtually any prospect to get him.

Cubs and Rays are talking about a Baez trade, and the return is speculated to be Cobb. He is a good young pitcher that is currently recovering from TJ

Id love Baez but not for someone like Miller. We really should look into a package deal.

Heyman: Marlins asked dbacks for 2 of best players plus top prospects for Jose fernandez. Dbacks said to be "out" now.

All good news here, as far as I'm concerned.
