Braves interested in Chris Sale...

Dont know where to put this but guess we'll see this winter. Dont have a ton of money allocated right now..

Atlanta is turning the corner in their rebuild and could soon look to make major additions. Expected to be major FA player this winter.

I'd offer Newcomb, Wisler, Folty, Ruiz, and one A ball prospect for Sale. No Soroka and no Allard and probably no Fried. This way you only give up MLB pitchers plus one top pitching prospect and no hitters. If they want hitters too they can have Markakis, Garcia, etc.

The White Sox would be making out like bandits. Under no circumstance is Sale worth a dynamite young starter (Folty), a top 50 prospect, and a Major leaguer (I'm not the biggest Wisler fan, but still). And you're even wanting to add Rio and another A baller?

I don't want to trade for Sale myself, but Sale is worth far more than that. That deal wouldn't really come close to getting him I don't think. Pretty much zero chance we get Sale without giving up at least two of Allard, Soroka, Swanson, Albies, or Fried.

Sale is an ace, it will take a lot to get him and if you don't want to give up Swanson or Albies you'll need an offer at least that solid on pitching. I don't see even that getting it done to be honest. Sure we'd lose Folty and Wisler from the MLB team but we'd be adding Sale, if you then add bats too then a rotation led by Sale and Teheran is a lot easier to add to and make a run sooner rather than later. But again they'll want more IMO.

My thoughts too and I was expecting to be accused of making too low of an offer rather than the response I got. I think some here overrate Folty and Newcomb.

Think we need to keep Folty... he's the closest thing we have to a solid #3 at the moment.

I think very highly of Folty and realize we aren't competing next year, anyway, unless we somehow get a premium power bat, upgrade at third, and upgrade at catcher to go along with Swanson and Albies up the middle, and even that is banking on two rookies having great seasons.

Newcomb is a consensus top 30 prospect in all of MLB... Folty is pitching very well in the majors for his experience level and age.

Exactly the Braves need hitter not give them away. Here's what I'd offer.

Inciarte, Wisler, Blair, Ruiz and Fried for Sale

So say if the Braves were to pull off this deal. This off season they could then go after some big hitters like Cespedes/Desmond, Wieters/Ramos, Turner. Just imagine this lineup and rotation.

Lineup:

Mallex Smith - CF

Dansby Swanson - SS

Freddie Freeman - 1B

Yoenis Cespdes/Ian Desmond - RF/LF

Matt Wieters/Wilson Ramos - C

Justin Turner - 3B

Nick Markakis - RF/LF

Ozzie Albies - 2B

Rotation:

Chris Sale - LHP

Julio Teheran - RHP

Mike Folty - RHP

Gant/Perez/Jenkins/Whalen/Newcomb/Sims - 4th/5th

No he's not, he wasn't top 30 on BA or BP midseason updates. His stock has fallen a bit based on his performance this year.

He actually moved up 3 spots from 24 to 21 on BA's midseason update...

EDIT: That's weird... Baseball Cube says they use BA for their rankings and it says he's 21 for the midseason update... not sure why...

He was still #33... that's pretty much a top 30 for all intensive purposes.

Those of you higher on Folty and Newcomb need not worry, my offer would be considered low and not get it done. I am almost certain of that. But Sale is worth a lot and a dominate ace like him in the rotation can do a lot for a club. Just look at what Hamels did for Texas last year. So if we did add Sale without messing up our future (my offer doesn't do that as we'd keep Albies, Swanson, Soroka, Allard, etc with it), then yes we'd have a shot even next year at the Wild Card (esp. with our potential bullpen). We'd just need to add a few good pieces on offense such as a Desmond etc and a decent veteran starter via free agency. But again that is a huge long shot since the White Sox would want more, probably a lot more as auyushu and MLBTR reports suggest.

I don't think cube has updated all the prospects yet really, I notice they partially did Swanson.

:happy0157: But please, you claimed he was a consensus top 30 prospect. He was ranked 41 on BP's list and he's not even in the top 30 on BA.

I'd argue about him being a "dominant ace" this year, however... his ERA is up (for him) and his K rate is way down.
