Dansby being sent down to AAA

I thought you had to be on the 25 man roster to gain service time?

I just looked at MLB/Fangraphs and 2-3

Other sites and it says days on 25 man or DL. So according to that, if he is a 40 man callup in September, we should gain an extra year.

I find this to be super important because it's the only possible silver lining in the terrible way they have handled this.

Either way the season just ended it's 116th day. Swanson ended last year with 47 days of service time. So he does have 163 days of total service time. So 9 more days does give him a full season.

Looks like 40 man call ups do count.

So safe to say it all means nothing. Unless he has another trip to AAA next season.

This is infuriating. Why did they let him rot on the bench so long. We could have sent him down weeks ago, finished the AAA season, and called him back up.

Being on the 40 man roster at AAA does not give Dansby service time. Being on the 40 man roster and being at AAA does use 1 option year though.

Correct. I think everybody is assuming once the AAA season ends he will be called back up in Sept if not earlier.

Then why was he benched for the most part of three weeks lol way to waste time, both on the club and in his development

Simple explanation for all of this....The Braves are managing the MLB team NOT the long term progression of the talent.

Secondarily, this tell me that they were concerned with severally potential limitations that if they occurred would have caused them to send him down and almost immediately recall him (which would not help him at all but possibly cause psychological concerns ...ie Blair from last year).

- Carmargo was going to turn back into a pumpkin

- Freeman was not going to pan out as a 3B

- BP and/or Adams was going to be traded

Turns out none of those things came about, so they can afford to send him down without adversely affecting the big league club.

I bet there is a good reason why he was sent down now as opposed to weeks ago. Maybe Dansby pouted about being benched so they sent him to AAA.

The Camargo pumpkin transition is in progress, but even if his BABIP normalizes he's probably performing better than Swanson. Send Swanson down, give him a nice long dose of AAA and don't call him up until he is murdering minor league sliders.

Don't bring him up to share time after a week or two of struggling.

According to smoot. I dont feel like looking everything up on my phone right now, but it seems like it might be right.

Incorrect. If they leave him down all year, they will gain the extra year. If they call him up in September (or at least for 9+ days of September), then he doesn't get the extra year. It's holding him back next year that wouldn't help. Just leave him down the rest of the year and have him in the lineup on Opening Day. Pretty easy.

Sept call ups DO accrue service time.

To get the extra year of control over Swanson, the Braves will have to leave him down all year, and then call him up next year a few days into the season.

Yes. Sorry, I need to read the whole thread first.

I've two theories I'll throw out this morning that are based soley on my imagination.

1. Swanson not Albies is the guy they have been talking about trading for a pitcher. They benched him to protect his health and stats while marketing him as an MLB regular under control for 5 years. All trade possibilities are dead so now he is sent down.

2. Swanson has an attitude problem and being benched and sent down is to discipline him. Dansby is the smart vandy guy that probably has never really struggled in his life and doesn't know how to handle what he is dealing with now. David Price and mike minor are both vandy guys and both have some diva in them. Jay cutler is a vandy guy and he is a big diva. Side note. This may be why wright fell in the draft.

Theory #1 - I doubt it. Benching him is a pretty terrible way to try to keep his value up to other teams.

Theory #2 - Pretty sure this is hilariously wrong. I won't even get into it, but huge nope on pretty much all of that.
