Kind of surprised by Law's reaction. I'm not a huge Realmuto guy, but I would do that.

Apparently our fans on reddit have lost their damn mind as well. Today a guy posted a spreadsheet of his idea for what a good offseason would look like. He had us trading Gausman, Fried, Gohara, Pache, and Demeritte for JT Realmuto... Yeah. It was as dumb as it sounds.

He also had us trading Newcomb, Dansby, Weigel, and Ruiz for Whit Merrifield. Signing Bryce Harper for a 36 million dollar per year deal, signing Corbin to a 22 million per deal, plus adding Iglesias and Familia to the bullpen.

Basically he wanted our entire roster to overturn.

I'd probably do that tbh, still keep Wright, Soroka, Touki, Anderson, Wilson, Fried, among others and still have Waters/Riley/Contreras.

If one really thinks Pache is a FV 60 guy, then that offer is outrageous.

I think Pache is being a little over hyped due to the success of guys lke Albies and Acuna biasing folks a bit, and don't agree with his FV 60 rating. Even if one values Pache as more of a high 50 or 55, then adding Gohara (himself a high 50 or 55) is still way too much value for Realmuto (Allard is essentially filler).

A fair package for Realmuto (~$60M in surplus value) is a single FV 55 guy as the centerpiece, a high 45 or 50 as the other valuable piece, and then 1-2 filler pieces. If someone truly views Pache as a FV 60 guy worth $60M by himself, he is completely off the table in discussions for Realmuto unless it's a 1 for 1.

Would I do Pache for Realmuto straight up? Not if I can sign Ramos or Grandal at good value, but I would probably make that swap if the bidding for those 2 FAs went crazy. It's not wrong to think Realmuto can improve his framing with access to better coaching/analytics, but I've yet to see any pro-Realmuto posters make that point.

Yeah that doesn't look bad at all. There's a certain point where I'd walk away (and I'd probably prefer signing Grandal) but I'd likely do one of the pitchers, one of the position prospects, and a throw in. If Jeter demands something dumb, like two of the pitchers, then walk away.

At this point, his value is close to all time low for his career...his velocity was way down and showed he was not ready when up here

"Not ready" implies more reps will allow him to iron out flaws, as is the case with Touki.

Allard simply showed he doesn't have the stuff to succeed in a MLB rotation, and folks have been saying that for a while now. We saw non-Braves scouting reports expressing concerns about him not having good enough stuff almost from Day 1. He has been falling down prospect lists the last couple years, and the only reason he hasn't fallen off completely is the results he has managed to post.

Pitchers certainly have added velocity in their early 20s before, but it is exceedingly unlikely...much like Newk improving his control in his mid-20s was very unlikely, despite all the folks arguing with me to the contrary. The Braves bet on Allard becoming the 94 mph guy they saw that one time (Kiley has said exactly that), and it didn't happen...sometimes prospects don't progress as hoped. I doubt the Braves are going to find any team willing to bet on Allard adding velocity, so their best bet may be to try to pump it up themselves.

Allard might be a good buy-low target for a team like the Yankees, Astros or Rays who are very good at developing pitchers and improving their stuff.

Rosenthal will get $6 million in 2019 and a 2020 option that will be worth at least $7 million and include a $1 million buyout. It sounds like Rosenthal could earn as much as $28 million over the two years if he takes over the closer's role and remains healthy. However, the option is a mutual one, meaning Rosenthal could also opt for free agency again if he has a successful 2019.

The Braves announced a variety of 40-man roster moves today. In addition to losing outfielder Michael Reed via waivers, the team outrighted lefty Jacob Lindgren, righty Jose Ramirez, and outfielders Lane Adams and Preston Tucker.

Each of those players will remain with the organization, having cleared waivers, though Adams has the right to declare free agency since he has previously been outrighted. With four other players returning from the 60-day DL and taking up posts on the 40-man, the Atlanta organization now has nine openings left to work with as the offseason gets underway.

He then goes on with the tired "front line starter" line.

He finishes it off with touting JT's throwing ability, while downplaying his framing issues. He obviously doesn't realize that throwing accounts for +/- 1 run per season, while framing accounts for +/- 15 runs per season. They are not even remotely comparable skills in terms of value added.

Actually the 60M is correct, but presumes nothing is held back for mid-season moves. For some reason, he has dug in his heels on that number even though most people work off estimates of opening day payroll.
 
I know people don’t wanna trade prospects but we are entering our long window to be super competitive and we need to strengthen the big league club. With Folty, Newcomb, and Gausman in the rotation and possibly Teheran that leaves one spot maybe 2 to fill and we have a ton of guys ready to take those places. We don’t know who will pan out and who won’t but we still have to make the trades to win. Soroka won’t be in a deal probably bc of the injury scare and I’m perfectly fine keeping him for one of the 2 spots. So that leaves us picking one of Anderson, Touki, and Wright with the other 2 probably headlining a deal for say Realmuto.

I'd give Arizona a list of pitchers and let them choose 2 or 3 in return for Peralta and Lamb.
