given how unions and I assume the rank and file themselves have become such an obstacle to change, I think we are going to see some cities adopt something like the equivalent of charter schools for policing...just an alternative to get around the obstacles

I give him all the credit in the world for going out in that crowd. Even more for saying "no" which was the right answer. Peaceful protesting doesnt mean they cant say mean things to him. In fact they went about it the right way. He is up for reelection. I cant blame people for going over the top with their demands. That is the result of change taking so long to take place. Asking nicely wasnt working.




One compromise is to have cops in the area focus on the most serious crimes. Much like the NYPD did when they were mad at the mayor a while back. Theoretically its safer for the cops because it's less contacts with citizens and they can send more backup to the more dangerous situations. Less speed traps. Less minor infraction stops like jaywalking. Take a guardian approach rather than a judge Dredd approach.

The murder of floyd does not require making him into a martyr. He was not a good human being and should not be repackaged as so to push a non factual agenda.

Floyd was a poor black man, arrested for selling cigarettes, then murdered because the cop thought Floyd's life was unprotected by the system. Unless you are implying Chauvin had another motive.

How much profit do you think one gets from a carton?

The mistake here is that we finally have an issue where the overwhelming majority of public is behind...

But the message from the protesters is to defund and eliminate police... which the overwhelming majority of the public is completely against
