2022 Spring Training Thread

I get strong Beachy vibes from him too- not sure why other than they seem to have similar builds. Beachy a couple inches taller though.

Beachy didn't have 100 in his back pocket.

Didn't beachy have impeccable control and a strong change?

Strider is going to have issues logging innings this year anyway based on what he threw last year.

I hope AA has got Snit understanding that he should not be facing the lineup three times over. Could create a great piggyback with some of hte other arms we have got waiting.

The eye test in the 1st tells me:

FA at 96+ based on the TV gun. Didn't appear to have much horizontal movement, but it might have good rise.

The breaking ball at 83 looked like a downer, but it's hard to judge movement that isn't obvious on TV.

The change he threw to Biggio at 88 looked good. It appeared to have some nice arm side run.

Fangraphs had a good interview with him.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/atlanta...ect-spencer-strider-nerds-out-on-his-arsenal/

“I had thrown two-seams my entire life, because I thought movement was a good thing, and I knew that two-seams move more. I didn’t have any data to back up whether mine was actually good or not. Sometimes it moved, sometimes it didn’t. I always threw hard, so I would get swings-and-misses on a two-seam, but not necessarily because it was moving; I was simply beating guys. Sometimes that was with two-seams [up in the zone] unintentionally.

“When we got a TrackMan put into the stadium at Clemson, we noticed that my spin rate was high, so we changed to a four-seam. We tinkered around with that and it jumped a little more, with a ton of vertical movement. That was when the decision was made that I need to be throwing four-seams.”

Beachy threw a ****load of strikes. Maybe not pinpoint, but he was around the plate.

Thats what I thought.

I'd love a review of Beachy's release point as well. I don't remember great 'stuff' but someone who through strikes and still got a bunch of awkward swings as well as k's looking.

HOws THornburg looking?

Guy was a top prospect at one point and has had some MLB success before.

Another diamond in the rough find by AA?

Yeah - Lets not block this guy with a retread back end starter that will pitch to a .350 xwOBA

Haven't even thrown a regular season inning but I think its safe to say this team will go down as one of the best bullpens the franchise has ever had.

For the record, don't think Beachy and Strider have similar arsenals, outcomes, pitches, etc. I just had the same reaction as Enscheff that Strider kind of looks like Beachy did standing on the mound. Their combinations of stuff/control seem quite different.

Was Beachy a porn star? 'Cause that is what Strider looks like standing on the mound.
