GDT 8/16/23: Braves vs Yankees - Another Lineup Change

If Cohen and the Mets were smart they would make AA the highest paid GM in baseball after the 2024 season. Hopefully we hear about an extension soon.

I can’t see AA staying in the division and facing the team he built, but if the Yankees came calling that would be mighty tempting.

Hopefully having young school age kids is enticing enough to keep him around while we have this core.

I don't think there is anyway Terry Mcguirk lets him leave. He makes their cheap fckn asses look like geniuses.

Isn’t AA President though? Pretty sure the Braves gave him that title to keep him from getting lured away like that.

rotation, too. They’ve been masterful, outside of Chirinos, for the last week.

Breaks my heart that his ass is pitching Saturday. We gotta chance to do some real fckn damage in the rankings this homestand prior to our biggest road trip of the season out west

AA has said he likes the fact the Braves and Blue Jays didn’t have singular owners like a Cohen or Steinbrenner. Allowed him to do his job better.

I don’t see him leaving. He sounds like he’s settled and invested into the area and local culture now in interviews.

He could ride this Braves core into the Hall of Fame one day as an executive.

McGuirk is lucky he didn’t lose his head from the Coppy scandal. He owes AA his baseball life for saving him.

Oh no doubt...The product that AA has created has money rolling and it's keeping Liberty's pussies soaking. If he left it's because he's bored and wants a new challenge.

Yeah, he's president and GM. I dont think the money is a big deal, not like the Braves arent swimming in money with the Battery.

President of Baseball Operations is just the modern fancier version of “final say GM”. We don’t have a GM anymore. Theo was Pres of OPs in Chicago and still had I think Hoyer or Cherington as his “General Manager” but Theo made the ultimate calls.

I think Farhan Zaidi was General Manager under Andrew Friedman but Friedman makes the final decision.

Weirdly enough, AA doesn’t have a guy like that. Perry Minasian was his Assistant GM but I don’t think he’s had a “GM” since he bumped his title.

He has some interesting decisions coming up with Acuna/Ozzie maybe needing new deals, plus Fried's likely departure. Charlie wont pitch forever as well.

Charlie is just his reliable rotating one year deal veteran SP.

He had one with Keuchel in 2019. Tried with Hamels in 2020. It’s been Charlie ever since 2021 unless Mort decides to hang it up. But I think the Braves give Charlie some Clemens perks where he doesn’t have to travel on all road trips if he’s not scheduled to pitch, or he doesn’t have to join the team unless he’s at a gameday on his pitching turn. Just so he can spend more time with his family.

I’m reminded that Hoyer or I think Cherington was the board fave to replace Coppy as we wanted to go into the saber direction.

I remember the reception on AA hiring being a bit lukewarm here because he wasn’t known as a hardcore analytics guy, but did spend some time post-Toronto in the LAD front office so the hope was he learned under Friedman.

hope AA stays here as long as he wants.
