    NLDS Prep

In a world where we win the first two at home, I don't hate the idea of throwing Minter out there to start game 3. Get him through Harper's first at bat, see if you can get a lead in one of the first couple innings, and try to put them away. Seems preferable to watching Elder implode in that...

    Morton out for NLDS

It just seemed a little overly definitive to say that Waldrep's stuff isn't exciting or he can't spin the ball based on spin rates from 4 AAA innings. But its entirely possible that one inning of AAA spin rates is all you need to accurately project a pitcher's career- I have no idea.

    Morton out for NLDS

I mean this seriously because I always await this analysis on pitchers, but I'm curious: does this data ever yield bad results? Can a pitcher have spin rates that are counteracted by above average movement (somehow)? Can a pitcher have spin rates that create some unusual tilt that yields...

    Projected Playoff Roster

Forgot about Stephens as an option. I'll guess those last three spots go to Chavez, Tonkin, and Wright, with Wall getting the last bench spot.

    Projected Playoff Roster

Now that we've wrapped up the division, starting to think more and more about what the playoff roster is going to look like. There are obviously quite a few locks, but also quite a few unknowns around the edges that I'll be curious to watch pan out over these last couple of weeks. Starting...

    GDT 8/30/23: Braves @ Rockies - 30/60 Attempt 2

Yep. I'm not even sure how someone could defend throwing Iglesias in the 9th there. I'm sure Snit will say 'its Coors field, so a 4 run lead is like a 1 run lead.' But I would agree that its a completely indefensible decision given how the schedule lays out and the importance of the next four...

    GDT 6/7: Mr. Charlie’s WAR.

I'm still not buying it. They have some nice pieces, but they are still a bottom five offense in the league. They've had an easy early season schedule (top 5 hardest schedule the rest of the way) and they've gone 16-4 in one run games, which has allowed them to build a nice record (35-28) that...

GDT: 5/10 Braves vs Red Sox: The Lineup Wet Dreams Are Made Of.

Their last five series are pretty ugly. Series losses to ATL, CIN, WSH, COL, DET (sweep).

    FG Top 30 Braves Prospects

Dodgers are obviously the gold standard here and every team would love to be more like them, but without doing the math I have to imagine we have significantly more home grown players on our roster than the Yankees do.

    FG Top 30 Braves Prospects

Operative word there being 'young'- the Nats gave out long-term contracts to Strasburg through his late 30s and Corbin through his mid 30s. Those are both considerably riskier than any of the contracts we've given out- the two oldest Braves at the end of their contracts will be Olson and Riley...

MLB Testing New Rules in Atlantic League

Interesting- I didn't have nearly as negative of a reaction as y'all. The one disengagement seems a little silly and like a desperate attempt to bring back base stealing even further. The losing the DH rule seems unecessary as well, but doesn't bother me that much. I saw the last rule less as a...

Collins has Juan Pierre vibes to me. Not suggesting he's going to be a long time MLB CF, just in that he's a slappy hitter who might be a HR every 500 ABs kind of guy.

Fuentes may be absolutely nothing, but he looked very good in his first start for a 17 year old. Would be exciting to see him burst onto the scene.

Good summary. I like Nacho Alvarez a good bit- he was primarily thought of as a good fielder when he was first taken, but he was playing third. Braves must feel really good about his ability with the glove to move him to SS for his first full season. I think he can be a guy if I can keep the...

    2023 prediction

I'm curious what VA Brave thinks the Mets 'added' other than salary. I'm so sick of the storyline that the Mets had some crazy offseason where they added a bunch of stars. They paid Nimmo a lot more to keep the same player. They paid Ottavino more to keep the same player. They paid Diaz a...

GDT: Mets @ Braves 03/23: Return of the Venezuelan Trout

No doubt. Every year you catch a couple of top teams when their bats are having a bad couple of weeks and you catch a couple of bad teams who are firing on all cyliders for a week. That's why I don't really buy into any of the strength of schedule stuff. We may play the Padres in a week where...

GDT: Mets @ Braves 03/23: Return of the Venezuelan Trout

I'm confused. If they play the same schedule that the Braves play, then they play the same number of difficult/easy stretches that the Braves do. I'm not sure its an advantage to play three bad teams in a row vs. playing bad good bad good bad. Schedule just isn't an excuse this year at all.

    Spring Training Thread

The OF depth battle is interesting at least. You've got a bunch of guys performing with White (1.500 OPS), Hilliard (.971 OPS), and Dean (1.079 OPS) all performing well. You've even got Ozuna (.831), Pillar (.820 OPS), and Forrest Wall (.893 OPS) putting up solid numbers and now Luplow has been...

ST 3/2 at Mets - Kolby on mound, Grissom and Ozuna and minor leagues- on TV

Hoping someone with more knowledge of benchmarks than I have can share what kind of picture this paints for Dodd.

ST 3/2 at Mets - Kolby on mound, Grissom and Ozuna and minor leagues- on TV

I am also getting on the Dodd train. Walk rate sitting at 2.0 in the minors, strikes out more than a guy per inning, stuff seems good enough. I remember hearing that some folks were pretty high on him coming out and suggesting that he shouldn't be viewed as a typical senior sign. I wouldn't be...
