2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

One thing that's sure to be confusing when this get's announced . . . will the $ the Padres are sending include or exclude the $ the Dodgers are sending them.

So, who else needs to go in the next two days?

Johnson
Francoeur
Pierzynski
Neck
Cervanka

I'd still try to put feelers out for Vizcaino and see if a team is willing to overpay.

Olivera isn't going to play another game for the Braves. He's a sunk cost. If we don't trade him we almost certainly release him.

So option one is we release Olivera and pay him the 28 million we owe him.

Option two is we trade him for Kemp (assuming we pay everything of Kemp's). That means we owe $7 to $8 million more a year according to Grant McAuley on Twitter.

So looking at it that way, we gain Kemp for $7-8 million a year. It's possible that if we're willing to eat the amount of Olivera's contract we could find a taker for Kemp at that rate and get a useful prospect back.

So compared to releasing him, getting Kemp for Olivera is a benefit to the team.

Deleting everything stupid I said here. I kneel before the majesty of Coppy.

What makes you think the Padres want Olivera any more than we do? Do you know something about their moral standards that would have them welcoming him?

My feeling is that the players in the clubhouse will have little bearing on his return. His hitting .114 in Gwinnett will have a bearing on his return (not). If he were hitting .400 with EBHs coming out his wazoo, there'd be a locker waiting for him. Remember, he has done all of the disciplinary actions the Braves and MLB required him to perform.

Well he's gone so doesn't matter either way

If Kemp deal happens, #Padres will save money even after sending cash to #Braves and open RF for younger OFers.

His ineffectiveness is huge in this. If he was a star there would be a much better chance he's stay a Brave. No reason to risk the headache of clubhouse strife for Olivera's putrid bat.

But Olivera costs way less and can be stashed away. Kemp is due 60 mil over the next 3 years which will be a huge drag on the team.

Kemp can still be useful. Hector will not play for the Atlanta Braves again, so he has absolutely no value whatsoever to the Braves.

I'd rather just release Olivera and keep the money savings. We could use that money better elsewhere.
