Escobar is still playing and playing fairly well. He was a head case, but a very talented one.
Well if he causes clubhouse problems I don't want him

Wonder how many players said that when Bobby Cox punched his wife? Excuse me, allegedly punched his wife.
Olivera isn't going to play another game for the Braves. He's a sunk cost. If we don't trade him we almost certainly release him.
So option one is we release Olivera and pay him the 28 million we owe him.
Option two is we trade him for Kemp (assuming we pay everything of Kemp's). That means we owe $7 to $8 million more a year according to Grant McAuley on Twitter.
So looking at it that way, we gain Kemp for $7-8 million a year. It's possible that if we're willing to eat the amount of Olivera's contract we could find a taker for Kemp at that rate and get a useful prospect back.
So compared to releasing him, getting Kemp for Olivera is a benefit to the team.

What makes you think the Padres want Olivera any more than we do? Do you know something about their moral standards that would have them welcoming him?
My feeling is that the players in the clubhouse will have little bearing on his return. His hitting .114 in Gwinnett will have a bearing on his return (not). If he were hitting .400 with EBHs coming out his wazoo, there'd be a locker waiting for him. Remember, he has done all of the disciplinary actions the Braves and MLB required him to perform.

Sounds like the Padres will simply DFA Olivera if this trade goes through.

But Olivera costs way less and can be stashed away. Kemp is due 60 mil over the next 3 years which will be a huge drag on the team.
Nice
I got excited about seeing Markakis and Johnson traded, but then I realized I twitter quoted some regular Joe Schmo like us!
Kemp can still be useful. Hector will not play for the Atlanta Braves again, so he has absolutely no value whatsoever to the Braves.
I for one will look forward to seeing Kemp in the lineup. Let's now trade Neck and a prospect for Dozier
