Is there more to a player's value than wRC? Did you really list Pollock's 12 game 2016 wRC when he missed the year due to a freak elbow dislocation?

Perhaps age, base running and defensive contributions are taken into account when doling out FA contracts?

I'm just pointing out his decline as a hitter. He has also declined as a defender. I suppose the question is what is the proper value for him.

2 1B Freeman $21.00
3 2B Albies $0.55
4 3B Camargo $0.55
5 SS Swanson $0.55
6 LF Acuna $0.55
7 CF Inciarte $5.00
8 RF FA/Trade $0.00

9 SP1 Teheran $11.00
10 SP2 Folty $5.5
11 SP3 Gausman $9.2
12 SP4 Newk $0.55
13 SP5 Touki $0.55

14 BN1 Culberson $1.4
15 BN2 Duvall $3.1
16 BN3 Backup IF $0.00
17 BN4 Backup OF $0.00
18 BN5 Backup C $0.00

19 BP1 O'Day $8.00
20 BP2 Viz $4.8
21 BP3 Freeman $1.5
22 BP4 Venters $1.5
23 BP5 Minter $0.55
24 BP6 Winkler $1.6
25 BP7 Fried $0.55

Side note, shows Jose Ramirez at $700k and Lindgren at $600k, both possible non tender candidates....

According to Enscheff's math combined with MLBTraderumors expected arbitration salaries, that puts us at $82m payroll...I'd consider a trade of Teheran if we can get someone to cover most if not all his salary. Non-tender Duvall to save the $3.1m there...that would free up about $14m...if our payroll is expected to be around $120m, but keep around $10m for in season additions ($110m pre-season) that leaves us around $42m to spend on corner outfielder, primary catcher, bullpen, and bench

Duvall at $3.1M looks to be a pretty obvious NT candidate, as are Lindgre and Ramirez.

Winkler and Freeman at a combined $3M are probably worth keeping around depending on how tight payroll ends up being and what the plans are for guys like Touki, Wilson, Fried, Gohara, and Newk.

The rest are easy decisions to keep.

I expect the opening day payroll to be around $120M, not the overall season payroll. The overall season payroll should be higher than $120M if the Braves are in contention, and less if they aren't (which would lead to selling off some payroll at the deadline).

The Braves are a playoff contender. You would justify it by calculating that the alternatives to keeping Teheran give you a better chance to win.

Paying Julio to pitch for someone else AND paying Anibal to pitch for the Braves likely isn't one of those scenarios.

Don't misunderstand, the depth would be great. The thing is, some combination of Soroka/Touki/Gohara/Wright/Wilson/Fried should at the very least match Julio's production and wouldn't leave you wondering what to do with him in the playoffs like this year.

I'm all for having ONE of them as your "veteran presence" (although one could argue Folty and Gausman are getting close to being considered that), I just don't see a need for two of those now that several of the kids have gotten their feet wet and haven't looked terribly overwhelmed.

Any interest in tommy Pham?

They didn't sound at all interested in moving him, and the cost would likely be prohibitive (as it would for several that have been mentioned already - including the Pirates' guys that I mentioned) if they did.

One could argue that you'd save even more money if you dealt him and brought Anibal back - as a Pitcher/Coach. There's your Hernandez replacement for no salary on the management side.

I glanced at his contract, and saw money end this year. Didn't look close enough to see ARB lol

I'd prefer to look at other options first but I would rather try your suggestion of moving Camargo to the outfield over resigning Markakis. Nick was terrible the last couple months and the postseason. His age also scares me.

Wasn't my idea originally - someone else mentioned it first - but I've certainly warmed to it as a legitimate possibility depending on what other moves AA has planned. You can still play games with Riley's clock by playing Culberson at 3B during April if need be.

If the Braves don't get someone projected to be at least a 3 WAR cOFer then they have failed this offseason

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but Camargo was a 3.0 bWAR bat in 2018 and he missed a month - even if he's just average defensively as a corner OF, wouldn't he project as at least that (especially with another month worth of ABs)?

You are 100% correct.

This is not the time to be mixing and matching half-baked solutions in the OF (a legit platoon would be acceptable). The resources are there to acquire legit players, and the contention window is now fully open.

So much stupid...

Braves have money, and prospects to add really anyone they want.

A Brantley or Pollock in FA, or an Ozuna (if hes avail), Marte, Peralta, etc in trade. I bitch about the catcher situation but theres not many great catchers available. Too many teams are gonna be in on Grandal me thinks.

i hate to get involved but i really don't understand criticizing someone for projecting the braves for 75-78 wins just in general. but it makes even less sense when you yourself predicted the same thing. i just don't understand.

The 3 bWAR you are seeing has the 3B position factor baked into it. So that number automatically goes down by moving to LF whether he is average out there or not.

And we can easily see this with Markakis who had the same OPS as Johan and played all 162 games. He was listed as 2.6 owar on bref.

In fact Neck is essentially the player you are describing. He was +1 in both UZR and DRS (average defensively) and overall was a 2.6 WAR player.
