2022 MLB Draft Thread

We're reading he's at 94 on the FB. Often when you see that in a scouting report it means he's topped out at 94 and sits 91-92. If he had a good frame that hinted at untapped velocity I'd like this pick better. But we can't expect a jump in velocity here.

The ceiling here is just so low for a prep arm in the first round. All the risk of a prep pitcher with a mid rotation, pie in the sky ceiling. I just don't get it.

I know you're a pretty good lawyer, but unless you're a baseball scout in your spare time, I don't know how you can make the assertions you're making. I'm not ecstatic about the pick, but none of us have any idea how this is going to turn out.

A Notre Dame commitment is about the same as an Ivy League commitment when it comes to post-college earnings. Great education and great alumni network. Think equivalent of Stanford.

That’s not really the way it works. If ND had a history of getting top guys to forego a pay day and come to school, that’s a different story.

Anderson ceiling of a good 3 didn’t excite me either. He’s struggling some now.

But it was objectively a great pick. Top 3 war player for the third pick.

Got to majors early. A huge reason behind a couple playoff runs. Key guy on a ws team.

Maybe we won’t want to keep him after team controll but he already has been a huge success.

Langeliers only won mvp bc he got a hr off soft tossing shuster.

I don’t follow these guys. I am curious why we picked this guy higher than experts. Are they going to repeat the Anderson , guy whose name started with a w, and muller too 3 picks?

They need guys they can develop. Mid 90s at 18 I like. No small sample velocity spike driving this. Seems more scouting than models.

Once you hit this part of the draft, it happens. Right after us, teams were taking guys ranked even lower than Murphy.

Looking at the stats dude can hit and has a good eye. Could we be looking at his as a hitter? Riley was viewed as both when we drafted him.

Allard is such a bizarre comp. There is literally nothing about the two that is similar other than you think the pick is boring.

Small frame prep Braves first rounders. Both had scouting reports with fastball velocity touching the mid-90s but seems to sit low 90s. Both throw curves and changeups.

It's the frame that's big for me. Both are 6-1 under 200 pounds.

Could Prielipp still be there at 35?

Was my initial thought. If they’re able to get him there, that could be huge value with both picks signing for significantly below combined slot. Leaves LOTS of money for the next two picks and a potentially deep class right when we need it.

Priellep, Brock Porter, Jacob Miller - all probably overslot picks in the comp rounds. Would love to get one of them at 35. Porter is definitely my favorite of the group.

Well, it is actually kind of the way it works. The value of a top-tier education (and the opportunity to play near where you grew up) is part of the calculus. How big a part remains to be seen. It's my guess that Murphy has already agreed to a number, but I don't expect it to be that far under slot.

What’s up with Manfred tossing his head to the side before he makes the announcements. Does he need a chiropractor?

Can’t believe Porter and Prielipp are still there. 2 of the best pitchers in the whole class.

Do some research. Kolby Allard weighed 170 pounds when he graduated from high school and he had back problems. Sans back problems, he would have likely been a top five pick.

That too. It really made the pick worth it even though Anderson is pretty mediocre.

Dude, the Anderson pick was a good one. Period.

Yes, that draft looks terrible in hindsight. It’s almost like the Braves did some scouting and thought none of those guys seemed any better than Anderson.
