2022 Spring Training Thread

Wait, I swear I’ve heard that “muller increased his velocity” story before…

I think he's a pen arm where he can pitch that hard.

I swear we have a bunch of guys who should be dominant 1-3 inning RPs. Everyone doesn't work out but Touki, Wright, Newcombe, Muller, Strider, and Ynoa. Crazy we have such an expensive bullpen.

Maybe if some of those guys pitch well or declare themselves pen arms then we can use them next year and free up30 million from Smith and KJ to get Correa.

With Atlanta's Olson deal and Riley's success in 2021, there are examples now of players that developed an approach. These two can possibly be a resource for Waters.

My memory of Schaffer is he was exceptionally cocky and thought his talent was enough to get him to the HOF. I'm not saying he didn't work at it. The approach was just never there.

Besides, with Pache gone, Water's bat doesn't need to be as good in CF as was necessary when he was projected in LF.

He doesn't need to be a superstar. Just serviceable in CF and replace Duvall when he falls back to earth this year.

Schaffer's issues were more than on the field. He ultimately may never have been much, but his off the field issues were just as much to blame for his failure, imo.

The problem is that most of those guys have struggled as relievers too (Muller and Strider obviously have not had enough of a look yet and I think Strider has a chance to become an impact starter). Newcomb was very good one year… but that was supported by unsustainable peripherals. And he’s been awful ever since. Touki has had more limited success as a starter I’d say. This is obviously just based on my eyeball test and not objective analysis so I’m not trying to say I’m right. I am hopeful Wright builds on his excellent short WS stint though.

The SP/BP lines are going to continue to blur to the point where teams no longer let mediocre guys pitch 5+ innings just because they started the game.

It's terrifying to think Snit may be at the controls of a team attempting to help blur those lines, but here we are...getting ready to watch it happen.

Might be naive, but I think the help snit accepted in the playoffs last year will make him even more willing to listen after great success

I was higher on pache here than most too, but according to my friends who attend M-braves games religiously, he was a huge douche

Every Rome game we attended while Waters was there, he was one of the first players to the fence to sign autographs for the kids. Smile on his face, hung out until everyone was done. That doesn't mean he's humble on the field or has an approach, but he seemed like a nice guy.

It could just be a coincidence but I never saw Pache over there. He sure was fun to watch in CF though.

Our main 6 in the BP: Smith, Minter, Matzek, Jackson, McHugh, Jansen. Not even Snit can screw that up lol. Then throw in Yates when he's healthy, that's just an incredible bullpen.

Snit can. He'll make sure guys get a chance to get through 5 so they can get that pitcher win.

Schedule being compressed and less options could be brutal too.

I think having the DH is going to cause the team a lot less headaches in the pitching change department.
