2022 Trade Deadline

Counting Yates and the new guys we’re at 27. Heredia has an option left to be sent down. Dylan Lee has options but he’s not going anywhere. Jackson Stephens is out of options and has pitched well.

There will more than likely be at least one more trade today

why would Boston make that trade. Wouldn't we need to either pay a good chunck of Ozuna's salary and/or add prospects.

Woah woah... did I say "trade Ozuna to Boston for JD Martinez?" I said turn Ozuna into JD Martinez... I don't care how it happens, trade Ozuna elsewhere and put another trade together for Martinez. And sure, add in money and/or prospects to Boston if they will take Ozuna, that's fine. I'm just talking about turning Ozuna into Martinez in the lineup... I don't care how it's done.

after typing that I started to wonder if we just paid them 25 million to take him, if they would consider that. Ozuna and JD salary basically wash this season, then they would have him for roughly 11 million over two more seasons (5.5 per).. Maybe betting he rounds back into form and he could help with next year or be flipped for a better prospect..

Problem is Boston doesn't care about movey, they probably want prospect capital.. I think the Braves would make that deal everyday to get out of those last two years.

editted my numbers..

Bc he’s had multiple TJ’s and is 35? You always upgrade any chance you have.

You would seriously trade meaningful prospects to upgrade the FOURTH LHP IN YOUR PEN??? Use Muller in that role before you waste prospects like that.

Thank God you're not in charge.

Dude you’re an idiot. You upgrade WHENEVER you can. Especially when you’re a WS contender.

I'm not up on all the luxury tax junk, but I read somewhere that they were trying to shed money to get to under a certain number. Thus, money may be a bit more important than you think.

You always say crap like this, but you consistently post the stupidest ideas on this board. You would think after all the people who constantly call you out and prove you wrong, that you would look in the mirror every once in a while.

Not hard to do at all - simply include Strider and Grissom and I bet Bloom will bite.

Lol... obviously he would bite... that would be the most ridiculous overpay in history. It baffles me that you press "post" on this stuff.

man, I can't believe we traded Will Smith. I am not sure how I feel about the new guys.. I am still wondering if this move Strider to the pen or they use some sort of 6 man. I think they want Strider in the pen as a Hader type closer.

But Will will always be a favorite player after last year's postseason. I don't care what he did before that or after that.. dude was fire and for that he is always a Brave in my world.. Same with Matzek..

I get limiting his innings so he’s fresh for the postseason, but I just don’t get the longterm plan of not letting Strider face a lineup two times every fifth day. He’s shown he can do it, and do it really well.

I think its mostly about just this year and controlling his innings.

Has anyone actually still proposed him being a reliever long term?

I think you should always improve when you can.. I would rather keep Muller in AAA as a starter versus the yoyo game of starter/reliever, majors/AAA.. We can get a 4th LHH or a 4 RHH reliever for scrap heap prospects. I am sure there are some on AA radar that show underlying signs of good performance that he might target today.

I think the biggest issue as someone up thread pointed out is roster moves. Someone has to go to bring someone in. Lee has been too good.. Do we drop O'day for another lefty... how much do we trust Jackson... Those are the real questions on upgrading the pen.

Which is why EVERY single pie-in-the-sky post about turning Ozuna into anything is so laughable.

The Braves don't want his contract - there's the dead giveaway that nobody else (particularly teams selling at the trade deadline and rebuilding clubs) wants it either. Any attempt to make that contract disappear is going to require a huge overpay. Ozuna and Rosario are dead money - folks just need to accept that.

I think you and jpx have valid points.. yes it would only be for this year.. but then what if it works, would the Braves be brave enough to bring him back as a starter or just say, jeez kid, you crushed it as that guy, so here is your new role. OR what if he completely fails in that role.. how does that impact his development... sometimes you don't tinker with something that isn't broken.

Goodness gracious... you don't read ****

If you think it would take adding Grissom and Strider to Ozuna to get JD Martinez, you're even stupider than I thought which is pretty impressive. I also never said "trade Ozuna for JD Martinez." I said turn him into JD... Ozuna can be traded elsewhere. We throw in most of the money and give a mid level prospect or two... you can't tell me no one would take Ozuna for that. Would AA do it? That's another question. But stop being so obtuse.

I think we might be looking for pen help but I'd be surprised with any additions anywhere else. I think AA is fine with Rosario/Grossman in a platoon even though I'd like to see an upgrade there. It doesn't make sense to grab another starter after trading for Odorizzi. We'd just have too many starters at this point. I don't see us grabbing another infielder after bringing Adrianza back. I also don't see them doing anything at DH as that would take ABs from Contreras.

So I expect a reliever or two but that's about it.

If we were to make a big splash we'd almost have to deal someone on the major league roster. I could conceivably see us trading Ian Anderson and sliding Odorizzi into his spot but I'm not sure what we'd trade him for.

Agreed. The point is that it won't hurt one bit if you add him to the playoff roster in the event you actually need another LHP beyond Minter/Matzek/Lee/Yates. There's absolutely no need to waste a prospect when you've already got a better Pitcher in-house than somebody you're trading for to potentially give you 3 innings during a postseason run.
