2025-2026 offseason thread

I am not the clown here. You guys just expect everything the Braves do to work out just the way you expect it to, and somehow you are disappointed when it fails 32 out of 34 years. You guys seriously can't see the forest for the trees. Fooling yourselves yet again into believing this is a championship contender.

The real treasure is the friends we met along the way.

Off-season is firmly a success.
I agree. Shocked Kim took a one year deal. But this makes all the other offensive signings so much better. It is nice to know there is actual MLB talent on the bench now. I also agree with others that this gives me hope that I am wrong about twit2.0. I think AA wouldn’t have spent this much if he has t already talked to WW about utilization. This is a good sign imo.

Don’t let Matt see this.
Well since you mentioned it. dOB is wrong as usual. The Braves traded for Kim as a gamble that they would get to pay him 16 million to play SS in 2026. I liked that gamble. But it didn’t pay off. The Braves getting to pay him 20 million to play is because Kim was a free agent. The Braves lost their gamble unfortunately. But a by product was that the two sides fell in love with each other. Just that Kim didn’t fall in love as much as the Braves since he made them pay an extra 4 million to keep him.

Still a great move though.

I am also on board with a trade or signing another mlb quality starter pushing others to the pen and allowing the Braves to trade elder in spring training ( or as a kick in in another trade). I already rate this offseason a success but another quality player would put this as exceptional.

"Walt, I like you brother, but I swear you better fucking use your head out there because Snit sure as hell didn't."

I really doubt we'd get Kim for 1 season if we hadn't traded for him. That was the gamble. Same could be the same for Iggy and not trading him at the deadline. AAs deadline looking better now too.

Yet it’s been reported he took less years and money to sign in Atlanta. Why would he do that if he didn’t get play there last year?

He did take less to sign here. But coming off a 0.3 fWAR season didn’t help.

He took 25 million less? Seems unlikely, but ok.

And yes, his season this year is directly why I questioned whether he would get 3/45 right now. And it's why I compared his situation last year to Murphy right now, given that Murphy didn't have a timeline for return and he's been pretty mediocre (and injured) overall for the last 2 seasons.

Teams are exactly lining up to give out 3 or more year contracts to players with serious injuries and who don't have a good timeline for return.

Did I say he took $25m less?

Murphy is still more valuable than Kim.

The point of me posting "About that 3/45 projection..." was busting your balls about you being wrong. Yet your follow up post surely opens up a lot of ambiguity on whether or not you are admitting you were wrong.

It's certainly arguable whether or not Murphy right now is worth more than Kim was at this time a year ago.

Kim averaged 3.4 fWAR the 3 seasons before his FA and had a history of good health before the injury. Murphy has averaged 2.6 fWAR over the last 3 years and has been hurt each of the last 2 seasons, even before going down late in the season and needing surgery. Kim was also 29 last year and Murphy is a 31 year old catcher right now.

Would you like to write up an apology form for me to sign or something?

Most people expected Kim to get around Murphy’s contract. He took less money and years to stay in Atlanta. I confess that I do not know how much less. Considering Murphy is one of the best catchers in the league when healthy, yes I think he has more value than a 2.5-3.5 WAR SS.

It is cute that people are buying the narrative that the Braves gambled on Kim so that they would have the opportunity to pay him in free agency. And I met my wife while in line to buy a power ball ticket so I guess I won the lottery too.... it makes for great click bait and Hollywood scripts.. but the simple truth is the Braves traded for Kim in hopes that he would be the starter in 2027 at no more than 16 million. everything else is speculation and clickbait articles.. Kim took the best deal for Kim and he did that because he was a FA and could take the best deal.

I am sure we are going to get the Kim was a huge Braves fan as a kid stories next.

And again.. I liked the Kim trade because it had a chance to have him next year at no risk to the team. And I don't buy the Iggy wouldn't have come back if he would have been traded.. He came back because the Braves paid him 16 million this year. I mean is Iggy going to be upset if AA came to him and said, 'hey, I am going to trade you to the Brewers to give you a chance to win a championship.. we want to bring you back next year and will be among the highest bidders for you, so don't take this as a slight against you..just want to get better and give you a chance to play baseball in the playoffs.'

Do you think the Rays outbid the Braves fot Kim after 2024? Like I already said, Kims luxury cap hit would have been 9 million if he accepted the option. That was the gamble.

So you think Kim would’ve taken less money and years to go to Atlanta if he didn’t play with the team last year? Would be interesting for a player to do that.
