Alberto Callaspo Possibly Being Traded

He's been good the last 2 weeks but he's not putting up top 5 MVP numbers like Upton, nor should he. If we were going to make the playoffs, you'd want Upton and not Peterson, obviously.

No...Upton was in all likihood going to FA. The trade was the best route.

Jace wasn't awful most of the season, that's spinning too.

He had a 580 OPS in April, he has a 669 OPS in May.....he really hasn't been THAT good. Maybe it seems like he's been better than the numbers because of how bad he was in April.

Jace has become a fan favorite so far; I'm not totally sure why. Good defense, lack of hitting...... He's by no means a terrible player but, I'm not sure how he became a folk hero so quickly.

Maybe.....but we have money to give him. Again, I have no problem with the trade but I would of rather kept Upton and not signed Markakis and no Cahill trade, that probably only adds like 5-8 mil to our payroll.

His OPS was low because his hits were almost all singles in April, plus he had a bad first week being in and out of the line-up and being moved around in it. He has been a lot better in May minus a recent slump. And that doesn't even get into his plus defense so far, which has been even better than expected.

I think the best Jace will ever do is a high .600's OPS... which is only playable if we have a good lineup around him, he's playing amazing defense, and is a good baserunner.

With quality defense(2nd in baseball). 13th in overall WAR amongst 2nd baseman. Not bad for someone who is still on a learning curve.

Basically Jason Heyward just at 2b instead of RF?

:HeywardWut:

I couldn't resist.

If that were true, his average would be higher. His average in April was 246 and May was 265...again, May isn't horrible but it's not great. If you're going to hit for a low average then usually you have to hit for power or steal bases at a stupid rate. Guys that hit 250 and have a 650 OPS don't usually stick around as regulars.

The point wasn't to knock Peterson, he's been "fine" he hasn't been good or average though. Not sure why people think he's been so much better than he's actually been.

2b isn't a deep position, once you get by Dozier, Kip, Altuve, Wong, Gordon, Kendrick, Pedroia it's a lot of meh. If people want to celebrate Jace having a higer WAR than guys like Prado, Murphy, Lawrie, Giatvotella, etc then go ahead.

I hope Jace turns into a good everyday 2b but he hasn't been good yet and people are acting like he has been. Again, like someone pointed out earlier, he would play a lot better in a lineup that had more pop or better from top to bottom. Ours is horrible so it's tougher to roll with someone who is basically all glove.

Did you miss how bad his first week or so was? That affected his numbers in April. But either way when someone says someone was "awful" that sounds like knocking him to me.

He's pretty good for someone at his experience level. As I've shown you he's already slightly above average and he isn't even close to his prime yet. He's done very well.

Again, his numbers in April are 265 / 344 / 325....those numbers have nothing to do with April.
