I saw the video earlier this morning and notice his fastball had some horizontal movement. So I went an looked at his savant page and his fastball had average movement already.. wondering if it is more or less.. but his problem has always been a 3rd pitch that hitters have to actually respect. the curve before he went down was unplayable so hitters could just wait the fastball out and attack it. He would need pin point command to survive the 2 pitch arsenal.
So unless the 'slider' and/or curve are worth anything.. or his fastball truly has more horizontal movement, then I don't hold hope he ever comes back as an effective starter.
Useable third pitch will be the key for him. They have really taken their time getting him back and trying to develop a third pitch for him could be the reason.
