Sorry, but this is exactly why the trade was bad. "Solid major leaguers" can be acquired every offseason for a few million bucks. Hart could have signed KJ this offseason to provide whatever the 3B/2B rookie he just traded for would give the team. In fact, he did so when he signed Callaspo.
Studs win games, so I would much rather have 1 potential stud in the system than 4 potential solid guys. Freeman, JUp and Heyward are studs, and this team is not going to ever sign one as a FA, so they need to produce them internally.
Fact of the matter is Hart overplayed his hand and ended up taking whatever spare parts the Padres were willing to give them. The Padres GM somehow landed Kemp, Myers and JUp (3 studs) without giving up any of their top 3 prospects. All he gave up were spare parts that can be replaced at the drop of a hat any year. He did an outstanding job this offseason.
These players will NOT make the Braves contenders in 2017, and they certainly won't make the team competitive this year. Hart has neither retooled or rebuilt the team...he has regressed it.
