Braves trade Wisler, Sims, Tucker to Reds for Adam Duvall

Seems like this is a bench bat and a move to make Snitker sit Inciarte against left handers...let's see how his line looks vs them.

Yep, .769 OPS against LHP even in this bad year. .924 in 2017 and .795 in 2016.

Edit: Tucker is gone in this move.

I’m actually somewhat encouraged, and I was a vocal opponent of dealing for Duvall before his poor season. There are some things in his numbers this year to provide reason for optimism.

Although his triple slash is awful, it seems driven by poor luck more than anything. His batted ball profile is in line with his career numbers, yet his BABIP is 30 points lower. In fact, he’s making more hard contact than in previous seasons, and not hitting it to different places than before. If his BABIP just goes up to his career average than he is a rebound candidate.

He’s actually walking at a higher rate than any other season in his career. Combine that with the probable regression to the mean with his batted ball luck, and he could be a solid bat for us.

We gave up essentially nothing and his power off the bench should help out. He’s certainly an upgrade over Tucker when you account for the last few years, and if he rebounds, could be quite useful, particularly against LHP.

This move doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me.

He’s not particularly good vs lhp or Rhp.

I just think it’s weird.

Traded 3 guys who arent very good for a RH bat with pop under control for 3.5 years.

I think it's weird but i dont see a reason to complain about this.

I have no reason to complain. Duvall has power potential, though I would like to see a higher batting average. Wisler and Sims never had a real future in Atlanta. Feel kind of bad for those two. They have a tendency to give up the home run ball and they are going to Cincinnati.

Alex Anthopoulos says the #Braves will start Duvall in LF against lefties and shift Acuña to CF

Eh, I think I'd rather have Wisler and Tucker. I actually thought Wisler made some good strides and thought he could become a league average starter.

I mean, in the grand scheme of things, we probably end up on the better end of this deal because it's unlikely any of the players we traded away become more than role players and Duvall clearly carries the most upside, but still... Duvall is nothing to get excited about right now and he's also more of a role player than actual starter, imo.

Strange trade.

this move is great just to get 3 roster spots imo.... I am stoked personally... especially if he takes some AB from Ender vs Lefties.

The Bench is much better now.

Can't be upset with this move. The cost was minimal and Duvall provides necessary pop off the bench. His ISO hovers around .200; his walk rate is up; his babip is 50 points lower than last year so I'd expect a tick up in his average; his hard hit rate is still above league average. This is an under the radar but excellent acquisition for three AAAA type guys with no future in Atlanta.

AA still has some more moves to that need to be made tomorrow, but you have to tip your cap to what he's done so far at the deadline.
