Chipper Jones picked the Dodgers to win in 4.

I'm at work so I don't have time to search through twitter but here is one example and is pretty much what most people were saying about the brawl

LOL

excellent post, my friend. you linked to an article whose thesis can be summarized as "i can't believe everyone is supporting the braves' actions!" did you even read the article or did your dumbass just do a google search?

here is a quote from that article:

I can’t tell you how many people responded to me with some variation of this last night. “NO ballplayer would stand for Gomez’s taunting!” they say. “This is how it has always been in baseball!”

again, LOL at you.

here's another post from fangraphs: the persnickety atlanta braves

and a relevant quote:

But it is curious to note that Gomez got suspended for his actions, while McCann only got fined. Here is what is likelier: while people outside of baseball think all of these unwritten rules are ridiculous, people in baseball agreed with the Braves.

In baseball, what Fernandez and Gomez did was unambiguously wrong. You don’t show up the other team, ever, for any reason. Meanwhile, while McCann’s actions may have been over the top, his intentions were laudable: he was sticking up for his teammates, which in baseball is unambiguously good. Standing in the baseline may have caused a bench-clearing scene, but Brian McCann didn’t do it for the fans, he did it to stand up for Maholm. Defending your buddy’s honor may be old-fashioned and dumb, but that’s what baseball players are.

seriously, just STFU, lest i own you again

I agree Gomez was out of line. Just the timing was not right for the Braves to do that.

Fernandez was blown way out of proportion. And Mike Redmond should have been fired for not defending him.

Harper was just funny. I'm sorry if you think that's hypocritical. :tchop:

And what's this crap about McCann never coming through in the postseason? Did you people just become Braves fans this season?

Lol yeah, kinda sad, even with his terrible season this year he has a career .728 OPS Obviously before this year he was much better (.946 OPS)

Actually Mac IIRC was about all we had for offense against the SFG. Him and the pinch hitting wonders of Epic Winske.

I'll have to back and look where anyone said "never comes through." The argument I'm making is his bat has disappeared late three years in a row. Health problems or not, it's not a good argument for re-signing him to a longterm deal. He isn't getting younger.

Not you. Jsebe and bdawg were the ones saying that.

The whole irony of this thing is, for years Chipper's candidness is what lead to all the "nobody picked us" or "nobody thought we'd win" or "nobody gave us a chance" comments that he gave to the media sticking up for the team, and here he ends up doing the same thing he spoke out against for years.

You are blowing this up way more than it needs to be. He never said any of those things, he simply said the Dodgers pitching is going to be hard to beat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. Some of you need to get off his back.

You're missing the point Matt. This guy is still practically a brother/father to everyone on this team. He was going to war with most of them every night just a year ago. It doesn't matter how he sugar coated it, he still practically said that he doesn't believe in them. You can understand why they would feel slighted.

With that said, should a Braves player have caught his pitch? Absolutely. But, should Chipper have kept his mouth shut? Absolutely.

You guys love to take things to the extreme, he never said he didn't believe in them. Stop putting words in his mouth. Just because he predicted the Dodgers to win the series doesn't mean he doesn't believe the Braves were a worthy opponent and very much capable of winning. He simply gave his opinion on what the outcome of the series would be. He's stated on numerous occasions how proud he was of this team and how they deserve all the success they have experienced. I'm pretty sure he believes in them. He's just not someone that's going to lie to prevent people's feelings from getting hurt. Maybe some of you would but it shows a lack of character to do so.

No one is taking anything to the extreme. We're just trying to look at it from their point of view. Which is something you should try more of.

I think you're taking things to the extreme with what you're saying. Your last two sentences really.
You're acting like Chipper is some kind of hero; he stood up for a noble cause and would never lie about doing the right thing. Maybe some of you who lack character would lie on the radio about something as serious as playoff predictions, but not noble men like chipper. When asked, saying something like "I gotta roll with my guys in this one, it will be a tough series but braves in 5" would be so gutless and cowardly.

Why is it ok that Chipper should have the right to be able to say whatever he wants but other Braves players should have done what they clearly didn't want to do and caught him. The only argument is they both should have done what they didn't want to do and this never would have been a story.
