DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

What has Groome done for all these people saying he has makeup issues?

It's more about signablility issues.

But certainly a huge risk hoping he falls with alot of teams who could take a chance on him.

I'm also concerned that the Braves don't have a very good history with their top high school pitcher picks.

Good gosh, Anderson is not a mid- to late-1st rounder.

And he's willing to sign way under slot just to be nice? He knows he should have been a mid first rounder and knows that even under slot he's getting paid more than he would otherwise.

Guys like Anderson go 15-20 all the time. He's got a chance to be special but he's so far away, has so much developing to do, and has injury questions to overcome. He's a mid first rounder.

That's fair, but I'm hearing the analysis of the ceilings of some of these top projected picks, and they obviously have tools a cut above

I understand completely and see where you're coming from. Let me add this about Anderson and the pick, and let me state I'm only a High School Pitching Coach so take what I say however you like...

The top 3 high school pitchers (and overall really as I'm not sold on Puk) are in my opinion:

1. Jason Groome
2. Ian Anderson
3. Riley Pint

Of those three I'd rather have Anderson simply because of his delivery and his ability to repeat it, where the other two (especially Pint) can have a tough time doing so. In Groome's case he's just like Touki, in that he struggles to command the arm side with the fastball. To me, these three are very similar and will all three become #2/#3 type pitchers. Add in the fact Anderson was willing to sign below slot it seems like the perfect fit.

Not according to people who know far more than either me or you.

I don't see the upside at all for Senzel. Questionable defense and no power.

If you want a comp, look at Zack Cox from Arkansas.

His defense is only questionable in that he hasnt played 1 position full time for years. His arm is probably his best tool and he should be fine at 3B and could backup SS and 2B. He has plus raw power that could develop. Even if it doesnt he would still be a 12-20 HR a year guy. He is also an underrated base stealer. If he hits for a high average with 15 HR and 15 SB at 3B with average defense thats pretty valuable. Reminds me of Todd Frazier who was a prospect I loved. Also reminds me of Prado with a little better power/speed combo.

Lol at those thinking Groome could fall to 40. When the big market teams start picking he'll be gone. My guess is Washington takes him at 28 which will be a punch in the gut!

Callis is now 8 for 8, and has SD also getting Groome and Perez at 24/25. Quantrill is clearly an under slot pick to allow them to go over slot with Groome and Perez.

Now that's how you draft. Coppy should take notes.

Coppy should go under slot so he can go over slot later?

So he should trade our farm in a hilariously futile attempt to compete then let the players he traded for walk in free agency so he can get late first round draft picks? Is that the strategy you want?

If Perez is there at 40 or 44 then I'm all over him. Maybe they should call Laremy Tunsil to get some advice.

You know thats what hes trying to do at 40-44, right?
