DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

Yes, do you think that Washington is scared of signability? He is going to get drafted before 40. If you don't think so put some money where your mouth is

I for one would be ecstatic if the Nationals ignored the signing pools and forfeited their next 2 years first round picks. Might even do my happy dance.

Outside whose top 20? If they think they got 3 of the top 20 players in the draft what does it matter what MLB.com ranked them? No teams go off those rankings.

And how the hell do you think MLB.com ranks players? By pulling names out of a hat? No, they poll all the scouts and connections they have and come up with an industry consensus.

True, but the rankings usually are fairly accurate to what the general consensus among teams is. If we get someone ranked in the 30's with the 40th pick then you can be pretty sure things didn't work out like we wanted.

Pretty much. I'm assuming Groome is the most likely to drop? But Padres are likely all over him before that.

Their rankings are not industry consensus. They have writers who make their own rankings.

Well they clearly didnt talk to any Braves scouts then. Teams views on players vary a great deal. One team might have a player top 5 and another might have them ranked 100th. Team werent exactly running to the podium to draft Lewis when we passed on him.

The Braves paid zero attention to the "consensus" rankigns. When you have someone like McDaniel working on this every day, they had his list -- a list no one else has. Their evaluation of players is shared with no one. Including us. And that's as it should be.

Still would have liked Lewis.
