GDT 10/31/21: Braves vs Astros - World Series Game 5

Let me ask a real question here. What if Houston wins both games and wins the WS. Somebody has to get fired for a 3-1 WS choke job right? And after blowing a 3-1 NLCS lead last year. I couldn’t imagine the laughing stock we’d become.

You think we are going to be a laughing stock if we lose the WS game 7? With a team that's largely controlled for the foreseeable future? While we have a string of Division titles?

Your going to have to explain the logic there. Who'd be laughing at the Braves? The Mets? The Phillies? The Nationals? The Dodgers?

Blew a 3-1 lead last year to the Dodgers and if we were to blow a 3-1 lead this year on an even bigger stage then somebody imo has to be fired. Morton going down in game 1 would be the only saving grace.

Twenty eight other teams out there wishing they were in the position the Braves are and you want to fire the people who gathered the players to get to the position? Wait til Wednesday and we can start talking about how we can get to the same situation next year.

I think especially being up 4-0 in game 5. There was a pretty clear path to win that game.

Astros lineup is way too ****ing good to expect to hold them to 2, 0, and 2 runs a game. They were due to bust out. There was a path to win but Astros had good AB's, and did what they've done all year. They lead all of baseball in runs. Braves split in Hou, won the Anderson game, split the 2 bullpen games. Now head to Houston with Fried and Anderson with a fully rested bullpen. About as good of a situation as you can ask for.

Dodgers have been to the playoffs the last 8 or 9 years, and have 1 WS in a shortened season. Yankees havent won a WS since 2009 even though they have a bigger payroll advantage. Winning a WS is really damn hard. It would be terrible if the Braves blow this but the Braves future is still pretty damn bright and they'll get more cracks at more playoff runs if they did blow a 3-1 lead to a really good team.

Are folks already spoiled enough with recent success to demand WS championship or bust?

Fact of the matter is this team has provided awesome entertainment through October. Those nights of entertainment objectively improved your life. Whether they ultimately win or not isn’t going to improve your life in any way.

This team has already succeeded in its purpose, and I’m grateful the folks leading the organization understand how to keep that success going long term.

It's all gravy for me. Post-All Star break performance has been spectacular. I realized the post-season was a crap shoot when I was seven years old in 1960 and that was reinforced by the Amazin' Mets in 1969. The object is to get there and let the chips fall where they may.

At the end of the ****ing day, Dansby bombed a play he makes a thousand times in his sleep and Minter froze up against Maldanado and we lost to a great team. You can dissect to hell and back who should have been throwing what inning and how many outs we should trade for a plate appearance, but we lost the game because of poor defense and one of our best relievers just had a tough night. We have two chances to win a WS with our ace and a very promising young pitcher in Anderson who never seems fazed by the moment. I believe we will get it done though it’ll be like pulling teeth along the way. If we don’t, Houston likely will have earned it. All that said, we need to get it done. I don’t have to tell anyone here that we aren’t guaranteed to continue getting this far for years to come. And I know that whole team and coaching staff want it more than any of us will ever want it.

Making it to Game 7 of the WS, which is already the worst we can do, is a HUGE WIN for the organization. Even with the losses and post season underperforming of the 90's, this year is so big for Atlanta. Of course, winning is winning and people mistakingly look at it like that, but the great thing about this team is that they are in every game and you have to feel like they have a chance to beat a team as strong as Houston in their home park in a Game 7. That's really all a fan can ask and much more than one should ever expect.

We are one game away from a World Series victory in a season where we did not even go over .500 until game 111... a season when most fans were begging AA to sell... no one's getting fired or should, lmao

Exactly. We may not have liked the end results, but you can’t punish someone for exceeding expectations. What message does that send to Freddie? What message does that send to free agents or potential replacements of the people you fired?

Teams lose when they are up 3-1. If it happens, I’m going to be sick to my stomach until we win a championship, but I won’t blame the team. If Charlie is healthy we would be having a parade today. That that didn’t happen (yet) is no one’s fault.

But it doesn’t matter, Braves in 6, god dammit.

Even after Duvall hit the GS in the 1st on Sunday, I didn't have that gut feeling like that night was the night we win it. I was nervous all day and I assume the team was too.

I can't sleep tonight. Been up with the feel that today is the day. This isn't a bullpen game and they have good pitching, but it's our ace vs their bullpen. If Houston falls behind tonight early, it's over. We got this boys.

Going into the 2 bullpen games we were all praying we win 1 of 2. We did and just because the last game was a loss are freaking out? Nothings guaranteed but we got 2 more shots at it. Pretty greedy expecting to win the WS in 5 games imo.

The only reason people are so upset is because of the 4-0 lead in the FIRST. It makes it feel as if the Braves blew it. And yes, Snit made a couple of awful tactical errors, but I'm not sure he was ever going to empty the BP unless there was a clear path. It looked like things began to unfold and then Minter had his first bad outing. It happens. Let's win it tonight.

baseball gods have to love us today. We have had some crappy luck the last few games and it is time for that to turn around. I want to win it all tonight.. having Ian throwing a game 7 is not my dream scenario.

I wonder why we started Tucker Davidson over Drew Smyly. Smyly isn't a great option but he's a way better option than throwing out a rookie who hasn't even pitched in the majors in months and who isn't exactly overwhelming.
