GDT: 7/31/13 Rockies at Braves

Including this year, the average over the last 4 years for 1B with an OPS over 9 is 3.75

I won't say Freeman will be a mid-9 OPS guy, but if he can hit between .870-.900, that stat you just posted shows how good he is.

He doens't have a .900 OPS with an unattainably high BABIP.

I believe that he will show more power in the future. Again, I could be wrong (most of the time I am!) but I just see more power in that bat in the future. Braves would be wise to lock him up for 10 years after this year.

No way we trade Heyward. if we do, Wren deserves to be shot out of a cannon into the Grand Canyon.

Heyward is the guy who we should be built around. Mac staying around is something that carries us with experience while Heyward and Freeman start to hit their stride.

Heyward has already shown (allegedly) hesitation about signing a long term deal with the team, so at some point you're going to have to consider signing him/trading him/losing him for a comp pick.

Because only the elite power hitters have an OPS over 9, and it's extremely rare for a 1b to do it. If you round up, 4 out of 30 1b accomplish the feat every year, for the last 4 years.

Freeman is going to be a very good 1b, but he doesn't have elite power, stop using hyberpole on everyone.

Maybe I'm crazy but I wouldn't trade Freeman for great prospects, Freeman at this point is a sure thing and the only reason I'd trade him is for established superstars. I'm with thethe, he's going to continue to get better and better and should be someone we build around, not sell high on. I don't care about the OPS debate but I like what I've seen and want to keep him.

Assume his K% is the same and his BABIP goes to a more attainable say .320 he would need an iso power of say like .260 or so to do that, over the last 5 seasons on 6 players have averaged that, Thome, Ortiz, Pujols, Miggy (first over .260), Stanton, and Bautista. Freeman I cannot see having close to that level of power.

Freeman is 23. He will get to a .900 OPS in his career. I would bet he does it at least 5 times in his career. He may not consistently put up the .900 OPS because I do believe he'll be lacking the slugging % most of the time, but I think he'll hit enough homers and doubles to hit .900 OPS at least 5 times in his career.

I would also bet that Freeman wins a batting title during his career.

Why do people believe that Freeman won't have a power spike? Not saying its absoltely going to happen but I believe that it will.

I would take that bet.

Because he's NEVER shown that kind of power at any level?

His minor league OPS was 838

Power is often the last tool to come around. Why do you care about his minor league OPS?

In 900 AB's Simmons hit 6 homeruns int he minor leagues. In 600 major league AB's he has hit 14. Did you see that coming?

Didn't you just ask why we believe, what we believe?

That's the answer, pretty simple.

I'm just prodding at your rationale. Am I allowed to do that? Projectiing power for young players is the hardest thing to do.

The homerun he hit a couple of nights ago should show everyone it's possible. There is a lot of power in that bat, the only question is how consistently he can show it. It's not like he doesn't have the ability.
