Global Events & Politics Überthread

That is just the absolute worst analogy, because there is no humanitarian need to eat Skittles. We didn’t bomb the Skittles for the past 10 years and put Skittles in a position to be killed by other Skittles based on the actions they took during our occupation of the Skittles factory. Also, Skittles aren’t human ****ing beings.

It’s not our responsibility to take in the worldspppulation that resides in **** hole countries. Afghanistan was no better than before we were there.

If we institute this policy we might as well take in 2 billion more people.

We have allies across the region with shared culture.

Do not bring them here.

I’m just wondering how anyone thinks we can truly vet people from this region.

Do we just close our eyes and hope we don’t invite bad people?

We couldn’t vet while we had control of the nation. Remember that.

Majority of our casualties the past few years were green on blue. One incident were the traitor had direct access to general level personal.

These are people we claimed were super vetted.

We accept these afghans now we will pay for it later.

Man, look at what went on and was celebrated in this country last Summer. It shouldn't be too hard to improve this place. Heck, some violent religious extremists might be just what we need.

Afghanistan is absolutely worse for many since we arrived. We kicked the Taliban out of power, created an environment where people started doing things that would have had them killed before our occupation, then left with the Taliban back in charge and these people unable to take back what they did. We do bear some responsibility for the situation they’re in right now and should make every effort to ensure they aren’t murdered by the Taliban.

Islamic extremism is never what a country needs.

We are about to crush the marxists. Have faith.

We just don’t know the day to day as to what was happening in Afghanistan prior. It was a ****hole for centuries.

Nothing changes there aside from us creating a terrorist super state.

Thanks to everyone who voted Biden!!!

Maybe we catch 10% before it’s too late.

This is a massive mistake with a reasonable solution. Republicans need to stop being squishy.

Thank goodness we withdrew before the arbitrary deadline. Leaving Americans, Afghan who assisted us, and even US military dogs behind is absolutely worth Biden being able to say he got US troops out of Afghanistan.

I think it's time to stop calling this an evacuation. It was a retreat.

I refuse to believe anyone is this incompetent.

Intentionality will have to start to be discussed.

These idiots used our ****ing troops for crowd control.

Anyone who voted for Biden is complicit in this. You all knew how inept he was and how he was battling dementia.

You guys are ****ing idiots.

And now Jake Sullivan is talking about still providing aid to the Taliban as if they are going to actually give that to the Afghan People.

This regime is downright dangerous. We need to end it NOW!

People need to rise up and realize we have an illegitimate regime that is destroying the nation.

I wonder where all the people who waxed poetic about how Trump alienated our allies by asking them to put more money into NATO stand on how Biden is basically the laughing stock in European politics currently.

We are utterly alone right now. Nobody wants to ally with this illegitimate regime.

BTW - For those that think we can actually vet while we aren't even in control of the country:

https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/26351099.pdf

Green-on-blue attacks have increased considerably within the past two years, and comprise 14 percent of coalition casualties thus far in 2012, according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Long War Journal. In recent months these attacks have increased significantly, attracting the attention of high-level Western and Afghan government officials.

We need to stand up to Marxist plots to destabilize the world.

We should not take one Afghan citizen into this nation.

I'm not one of those who think Biden should resign or be impeached for this fiasco. It was a massive failure based in arrogance and incompetence, but not replace-the-President massive.

I am astounded that Sullivan, Blinken, Austin, and Milley are all still in their jobs. Someone screwed the pooch, and any one of those jokers should have been in position to stop it. Not firing one of them just reinforces the idea that the Administration doesn't think this was a disaster, and none of us believe they are lack witted enough to actually believe that.

credibly accused creepy joe screwed the pooch...one of the problems with his administration is that none of his national security team has a peer-to-peer relationship with him...someone who can talk to him in a non-deferential way...he would benefit from having an éminence grise but not too grise

Agreed. Many folks have hinted at his disconnect with the situation in the ME and the field staff there before he ever became Potus. Looks like that reasoning was well based. Too bad we dodged all that foreign policy malarkey in the debates.

I bet he'd have called it a desert boondoggle and moved on.
