I think FW plans on making a splash beofre trade deadline

I think FW will trade Bethancourt and others for a good starter. Gattis is the starter and is going no where for the next few years and Bethancourt is much more than just a a back up and teams always need good starting catchers. Obviously Bethancourt would be worth more than a Jake Peavy type but what if he could land us this?

Braves Get: Mark Buehrle and cash

Toronto gets: Bethancourt and Uggla

Toronto gets a guy who can be their future starter and Braves get a veteran starter who is under contract for '15 season as is the Braves core. Uggla's contract is what makes the numbers work but Blue jays would need to pay difference to make it the same as the 13mm Uggla is owed for '15. I really like Bethancourt but he's just blocked by a guy who should be hitting clean-up for a while and Bethacourt's bat will never touch that level. Just an idea, what do y'all think?

God, I hope not. Buehrle is just a few months away from becoming the next Jamie Moyer. I like getting rid of Uggla but Bethancourt is too valuable to give up for someone as mediocre as Buehrle... this is an anomalous year for an aging, now average pitcher. Hard to get excited about a guy having his best career year at the age of 35... granted he's younger than I thought. Been around forever.

Also, I'm not comfortable with getting rid of Bethancourt without a suitable replacement for Gattis... bulging discs and back problems can be scary... especially for a Catcher... I really hope it doesn't nag him for the rest of his career, but it could.

I don't want to get rid of CB unless it's for a stud under 30. Ideally with more than 1 year on contract. He wouldn't be the only one, he'd be part of a package.

I just don't see that guy being available. Maybe price but that probably costs the farm.

I think we'll get a minor bp piece. Improvement really needs to come from CF and 3B and both of those are signed up for 3 more years. So our only hope is guys like Heyward step up.

If we're trading CB it would be in a package to get a guy like Price. Not Mark freaking Buerhle. Having said that I could see 1 of CB or Gattis getting traded this offseason. Having two starting caliber catchers seems to be a bit of overkill to me...I hope it's not Gattis since I just bought his jersey lol

We would need a crap ton more than CB to land Price. CB would be a borderline throw-in. Toronto won't trade Buerhle anyway, they're contending.

I would not classify Buerhle as a splash, and if anything, Toronto is a buyer this year.

CB is very valuable and should only be included in a deal for a really big piece.

Probably not as valuable as some think. He still can't hit. And when you can't hit, your value is limited.

Lol, His audition has gone very well wouldn't you say?

I will also add he plays exceptional defense at one of only spots on the field where anything you throw in with the bat is just gravy.

If love to see us flip CB for one of Chicagos IF bats to stick at 3B. They would probably do that quick like seeing as though they have a half dozen guys knocking on the door there.

So when Gattis doesn't comeback the same what are we going to do at catcher for the rest of the season?

Fredi made it sound like they'd just go back to what they've been doing but CB's had some good games since then.Laird is tradeable; there are some teams that could use him.

Comments to AJC indicated CB to AAA to catch everyday.

That's what I'd do. If Gattis is fully healthy, though I'd bring him in, give the lineup some needed strength and let Christian get continuous reps. I do think this was very good for him though.

I'd just keep the trade deadline simple: Get a solid lefty reliever and go for a bench bat!

Who will you release?

JS, RD. You can't eat Uggla's contract, Liberty would forbid it.

Could Uggla be traded for another bad contract? Maybe a pitcher? I thought maybe Ethier or Crawford from LA but their contracts are longer. Maybe others could be added to even out a fair salary swap.

Uggla for Soriano could work. Braves pay both salaries for 2014 about $15 mill Yanks pay Ugglas $13 mill for next year. Uggla could do well with change of scenery and short porch in NY.Soriano may benefit as role player back inNL
