If we lose this series what then for next year

Heres what I would do.

- Trade/release Uggla. If we got someone to take 3 million of his salary we would be lucky

- Trade for David Price. Wood/Bethancourt/Walden/ and one of the low level high ceiling guys like Cabrera or Peraza is close to what it would take. I would offer him 6 years 120 million contract. If he doesnt accept I might consider trading him after the 2014 season depending on the team results. If we make a deep playoff run with him I keep him for another shot in 2015.

- Attempt to trade Kimbrel. We dont need an elite closer, just a good one will do.I wouldnt just give him away so it would have to be a solid deal. Trade market would be limited because not every team can pay a closer big money. If we were lucky we could get a Red Sox/Yankees bidding war. Yankees wont want to replace Rivera with just anyone and the Red Sox have Uehara who had a Kimbrel-esque year but he is 38 and they have him under team control for one more year. We could use some of the players we get in the Price trade

- Attempt to sign Joe Nathan to a 2 year deal. He wants to play for a winner and wants a multi year deal. That gives a 2 year window to develop a younger/cheaper closer. If this doesnt work then a 1 year stop gap like Fernando Rodney. We have umpteen million relievers I could see as closers in the future. Third option is to keep Walden and use him. Fourth option just use Beachy there for a year.

- Attempt to sign Omar Infante. I think it takes 3 years and 6-8 million per year. He's just a solid ball player that we need to balance out the sluggers on the team.

- Sign Freeman long term. Best hitter on the team.

- Re-sign O'Flaherty on a 1 year incentive laden deal.

- Re-sign Hudson to a 1 year deal with an option for 2015

Packages I Imagine in return for Kimbrel. From Red Sox - Garin Cecchini, Bryce Brentz, Deven Marrero, and Drake Britton. Keep Cecchini as future 3B. He an above average defender with good OBP skills with the speed to steal bases and already has half a season at AA. Has power potential but hasnt shown in his HR totals yet. The Rest are mid tier prospects that are close to the majors that I imagine the Rays wanting.

From the Yankees I would ask for Gary Sanchez, Mark Montgomery, and Mason Williams. Rays would definitely want Sanchez and Williams. I dont think Yankees would give up both but its hard to find anything else I like in their farm system. Literally their entire farm system all had down years.

1.I think we hold onto Johnson. We need a 3b and I seriously doubt we can get one in return plus a prospect for him and we have no one in the minors waiting unless you want Pastor there.

2. Try to get anything for Uggla and hope La Stella tears up the AFL and let him and Pastor battle it out in ST training.(Watch us unload Uggla and he goes on to hit .260/30/85 with his new club).

3. Unfortunately say Bye to B-Mac and thank him for being such a great Atlanta Brave.

4.Trade Teheran and Bj Upton for Felix Hernandez- Ok, so maybe this one is a pipe dream but it could happen, right?

Just fire Fredi and we'll be better. Your manager should help you win games. You shouldn't have to win games in spite of your manager.

Fredi is why Julio got rocked, and they scored 13 runs.

The hate Fredi gets is comical.

Stop trolling.

Mac depends on price but assuming he won't take a hometown discount, I'd sign AJ Pierzynski to a one year deal.

After that, I'd try to keep some of our core in the longterm.

Somehow trade Uggla, but unlikely.

After that, not a ton of changes need to be made IMO.

And no, Fredi isn't the reason Kershaw shut us down, or Julio got rocked. Losing to a superior team doesnt mean firing the manager.

Stay the course. Minor tweaks. Braves are a really good team with a really good core.

1 - Replace Uggla with ANYONE
2 - Only trade Kimbrel if you get blown away
3 - Sign Freeman/Heyward
4 - Let Mac walk and make Gattis everyday catcher

Most importantly, we need a new manager.

Agreed, as long as #1 doesn't include Elliot Johnson

I think Gattis has proven enough that he could be the everyday catcher. I mean if you look at the league average production out of catchers, it's pretty poor. He'll only get better as a receiver/game caller.

I think its a 80% chance he is our everyday catcher next year.

Julio gives up four--or even less--with a competent in-game manager out there.

You will never get Schuerholz, Wren and Cox to agree with you. Dont include McQuirk The Beancounter. He might agree if someone cheaper wanted Fredi.s job.

They aren't idiots.

Two things a competent in-game manager likely does.

1. Pitch around Crawford and go after Ellis.

2. Never send Teheran out in the third--or at the very least pull him after the first hit.

Number two might not even have to happen if the very obvious number one happens.

And now we have him stubbornly sticking to Garcia.

HAHA!

For sure man...I want LaStella out there but I wouldn't mind Pastor or Infante. Anyone but Uggla or Johnson.

LaStella I think is our best bet within the organization. He'll never be a good fielder but he can hit. I can't wait to see how he does in the Arizona Fall League against better competition than what he saw in AA.

Agreed. Gattis has been our best hitter in the playoffs, he's hitting .500 and even showed he will take some walks in big games (two in game one of the playoffs). Plus Gattis is cheap and we need to follow the Tampa Bay model.

I'm not sure the AFL is a higher level than AA. We're sending several players who played in A ball last season (Kubitza, Reyes, Cornerly). Certainly, for hitters the numbers in the AFL tend to be inflated. Plus the sample sizes from AFL games tend to be relatively small.

Whatever he does in the AFL, La Stella should be given a shot to compete for the job next spring. We have some decent internal options and I would give them an opportunity before making a trade. If none of them grab the job, make a trade mid-season.
