Jecki Lon Memorial Star Wars Thread

Viewership is among the worst of any Star Wars project on Disney+. It's reportedly half that of Ahsoka at nearly double the cost.

Based on Nielson ratings of minutes watched by 2+ people. It's also a shorter show than any of the other D+ Star Wars shows. Other show at the bottom included Andor. It's also the only Star Wars property since Mando season 1 to be wholy new characters. Disney's own reporting (which of course had issues I'm sure) have it's premier in the same level as Ahsoka.

No one knows the cost of Ahsoka, I'd guarantee it isn't 100M like people have said. The entirety of the costs are ILM cutting edge tech. Mandalorian costs 15M an episode, no way Ahsoka doesn't cost at least that. I would be shocked if Ahsoka didn't cost what the Acolyte cost.

It's also worth noting it's 200M premier minutes viewed or whatever, is still good. Netflix is still dominating those ratings, but even that, with original content neilsen ratings it has the highest views per episode of anything in the top 10, 244, next highest is Dancing for the Devil miniseries on Netflix that was at 163 per episode. So it doesn't seem that bad. It's not the phenomena that is the Mandalorian,

When has anything Star Wars related "failed?" Solo 7 years ago? All of the TV series have performed well.

And that's the point I was making.

Star Wars and Kids content like Bluey is basically driving Disney+. Without those things, people would leave D+. Basically every Star Wars release is a tent pole for Disney+.

Quibble over the margins all you want. Fact remains that The Acolyte is way more expensive than Ahsoka was and is performing well behind Ahsoka.

The Acolyte falling well behind other Star Wars shows even after spending way more is a failure. But now Disney and Lucas execs have an out. It's not the problems with plot, pacing, acting, writing, or characters, it's the hate mongers.

Whether Disney instigates the trolls, I don't know. But they definitely have been leaning into them as an excuse for disappointing numbers. Watch for Snow White to be the same. They're already laying the groundwork there.

Those failures are on Disney being woke.

Then the whether or not it is "failing" in the broader sense doesn't really have any bearing on how bad it is.

Star Wars fans will watch someone paint a fence as long as there is a lightsaber involved. And then they will argue over whether that fence should have been painted in the first place and what color it should have been instead.

It’s not a secret-
Disney has made some real ass burgers lately. People like zito like to blame everyone else but the actual source.

It’s their own fault, no one else’s

I think they still come out with some SW content (because no matter how bad it is like said above ) it will get eyeballs to D+. Which as a service falls pretty flat. My kids don’t even open it.

Would you say the same thing about Andor? It cost 20M an episode too, had less eyes on the debut etc. No you wouldn't say it's a failure as they renewed it for a second season.

Have they though?

Looking at Disney releases Pixar aside from Light year has been killing it. Aside from that they have a few duds most of which were because of bloated budgets.

We haven't had an MCU film in a while, The Marvels didn't do great but no one was shocked as it was being protested and dragged by the "anti-woke" moron mob before it came out. But also it's a formulaic MCU film and people are tired about it.

Guardians slayed, Deadpool and Wolverine will likely do really well.

There have been 2 Pixar movies come out since Lightyear. Elemental performed mediocre as it was virtually a bust stateside but was a decent hit outside the US. Inside Out 2 slayed, but that was to be expected considering it's a sequel to a popular Pixar film. For that reason, Moana 2 will kill it in theaters this fall, regardless of how good the movie actually is.

MCU has seen a major downturn since SP3. GTG was a major success as well a good film. Dr. Strange:MoM performed well but overall the movie was just mediocre among MCU movies. Thor 4 performed decently but it wasn't good. Everything else has virtually bombed. Streaming wise it's harder to determine how profitable a show is, but it's been a big mixed bag. Loki was legit amazing though. Wandavision was also really good.

Part of the problem with your logic of known property is Lightyear is a known property and failed miserably.
