Matt Kemp to Dodgers!

now, get rid of Markakis

No reason to. Just bat him high in the order and throw him in left when Acuna comes up. He gets on the base, he will be massive defensive upgrade to Kemp, he’s a good team guy, and he’s expiring.

No need to move him until someone offers something.

This is about reorganizing payroll this year, but mostly about clearing the deck for 2019.

DOB- The cash from Dodgers going to #Braves in trade evens out the total dollars exchanged. Neither team added payroll in this trade.

I like the deal a lot.

I think you have to give up allard to get yelich. Probably even if you take on prado.

I would try to get the marlins to bite on the poo poo platter. Allard, Newcombe, fried, sims, Cumberland mueller and seymore.

I would think the package to get it done is wright, pache, Riley and wentz. That would hurt big time but is probably the fair deal. You try to call their bluff and keep pache. They seem super high on Riley.

i recognize that

i just don't want to see him on the team cause i am not a fan. lol

Initial reaction I love the trade. Kemp is addition by subtraction and the players we got are solid depth. Positions the team well to go after a big FA next year. I know they like Riley but maybe he will come in at LF and we get Machado for 3B.

It seems apparent that left and/or third will be where we will spend some money. We can wait until next off-season to decide where to make the allocation of resources. Will depend upon the progression of Riley and Camargo (and Swanson too in an indirect way). The way our lineup is shaking out, we probably will want at least one of left/third to be manned by a strong hitter from the left side.

I also think that we may have a starting pitching surplus going into 2019. Consider that Teheran is signed through 2020, Folty is under control through 2021, we will have an option on McCarty for 2019, and Newcomb, Gohara, Soroka and Allard could quite well be options (barring injury/regression). Sims and Fried might be options as well. If things break the right way with the pitching, we could fill left/third via trade (from the pitching surplus) rather than FA signing.

I was taking a nap after the Arsenal game.

Woke up and the TV was still on ABC. Eyes blurry no glasses. Could hear Kirk Herbstreit in background in the Oregon-Boise game.

Eyes blurry and groggy. Yet when I looked at the TV I could clearly read Dodgers acquire Matt Kemp. I couldn’t see the other names. Just a blur. I thought it was a dream. Until I reached over and grabbed my phone and saw this.

Thank you. AA.

Just getting a chance to digest this, but it seems to border on too good to be true. About to calc the numbers, but this seems great for the Braves.

We will all have visions of machado dancing in our heads. Enscheff will tell us that is stupid.

I think next year could be the winter of extensions. They will have room to be creative and try and lock up gohara Swanson Albies and Acuna if they want to. Maybe folty but I doubt it

And we end up with our fifth starter and potentially a couple useful guys for the pen and bench. From the Dodgers perspective I assume there is a significant benefit re the luxury tax.

Before arb we only have 37 mil in payroll next year. If payroll is 130ish, could easily go after him, actually getting him or someone of that nature is another ordeal but they'd have the money for it.

Interesting question...

In the unlikely event we have anything left to spend, does AA sign CarGo to a one-year pillow deal to let him try to re-establish some value? Maybe pick up Ichiro on the cheap to play RF until you call Acuna up and then become the 4th OF/pinch-hitter?

We really don't have anyone that can serve as a 4th OF other than Adams, and if he has to start until you promote Acuna you don't have any OFs on the bench. I guess you could get by with Adonis in LF and Markakis in RF for two weeks to keep from starting Acuna's clock right away, but that sure isn't much of an option.

Still don't see us making a play for Machado - just going to be out of our price range. Donaldson on the other hand...

We hold a conditional club option on McCarthy for 2019. Either $8m or $5m depending on # of days on the DL. If his of days on the DL is below the threshold, it looks like the club option is null and void.

He had TJ surgery and missed a lot of time in 2015 and 2016, so I think it is at 5M.

Neck or Adams can be fourth of bc Acuna can be your backup cf.

I think the one year pillow deal should be something to consider if they move neck

Could a tremendous 2 year contract for the Braves. McCarthey was pretty good last year. Maybe 20 million surplus value on his deal?
