I think you folks have the 5 spot nailed with Strider as the bulk guy plus an opener, with the opener's handedness determined by the platoon matchups of the other team's top 3 batters.
If Strider begins by facing the 4th or 5th batter he can face 20-25 hitters while only facing the Top 3 batters 2 times.
For those wondering, that is the point of the opener. Guarantee yourself the platoon advantage vs the Top 3 batters in the 1st inning, then let the bulk guy face everyone 3 times except for the most dangerous 3-4 hitters in the lineup.
Considering the Brewers started their lineup L/R/L, it could be argued Chavez wasn't the correct guy to open for Strider last night.
