NBA Thread

I don't see any situation in basketball that could afford Durant that would be better than the Thunder. Ibaka isn't even playing right now. McGary could probably start for a few teams in the league and he can't get any run when everyone is healthy. Westbrook is basically either the 3rd or 4th best player in basketball depending on how you view Anthony Davis impact. THunder are loaded and are abou to make the playoffs in a loaded western conference.

All I'm saying is it could potentially impact your leverage. I'm just trying to illustrate that there is a significant opportunity cost risk.

Mcgeary a starter for a few teams. Like now?

Yes, I 100% think McGary could start for a few teams. He is really good at basketball and will only get better once he gets back into shape after being sidelined for most of hte year.

If it were up to me I'm keeping Adams over Kanter. There is zero doubt in my mind. I just recognize that Kanter fills a huge need for the THunder.

It's a very hard decision on who to keep long-term but thats up for Presti to decide.

I'd keep Kanter now and in 2 years, when it's time to deal with Adams, you make the decision with Kanter/Adams then.

I agree. Adams has played quite nicely when he's in the lineup.

But if you lose Durant, then I might prefer Kanter. The PNR with he and Westbrook seems like a nice foundation for a post Durant future.

Sure that might work, but you are committing that slot that could be crucial in keeping Durant on a guy who has about a month's worth of games of playing well who really hurts your defensive efficiency. (Kanter is passing a better now, but the defense problems have not changed.)

It's an opportunity cost. I don't know what the right move is, but it's definitely not a slam dunk either way.

There's not many/any teams with a better nucleus of talent than OKC has.

Top 5 player with Russ, three good bigs with Adams, Kanter, Serge allowing KD to not have to play the 4 quite as much and lots of depth.

But having that many players making so much money can limit the roster so it is a fair enough point.

I get what you are saying with opportunity cost but what other option is needed with the team as currently constructed. You have to admit...the roster is loaded.

I get that Kanter isn't a stud. I'm not trying to imply that but for anyone that has watched the Thunder the last five years could tell you waht the biggest need was and that is a big that knows what hte hell he is doing on the offensive end of the ball.

It is no coincidence that RW is going crazy with his assist number after Kanter was traded. They have worked INCREDIBLY well together. Teams sagged off of Perk so much it was a joke. RW has space to operate now for the first time in his career and we are all seeing the results.

Well if the Thunder lose Durant then you can easily afford both. They have been monsters on the boards.

i just question if it's prudent to pay both of them especially since you have McGary that deserves some minutes.

Yeah, I'm really not sure. I still believe Collison plays well when he is out there but the Thunder have 5 legit quality big men. Never had this much talent on the roster before.

The guard position could use an upgrade over Roberson/Waiters/DJ but it could be worse.

I just don't think you can let Adams go. That guys ceiling is really high. At the same time, you can't let Kanter go when you have seen what an impact he has in the system they run.

That doesn't mean they are starter quality.

McGary's minutes are starter quality. He just needs to dedicate himself to getting into better shape. HIs body type might not support that but he is basically a chubby dude that knows how to play basketball.

The Thunder are playing some of the best team basketball I've seen from an NBA team in a long time. They are a joy to watch. Same goes for the Hawks.

The defense has been awful lately which is a shame. I hope they can sneak into the 7th spot because I think they could still beat memphis without KD. Warriors would beat them though if that was the first round matchup. Then as a Thunder fan I can hope that Ibaka is healthy by a 2nd round series and who knows. You can't replace KD but the Thunder have never had a big that can score off the PnR or in the low post and now they have 2-3 of those guys. Its great.

Since KD last played, OKC is 10-5 and Russell Westbrook is averaging 31.5 points, 11.4 assists and 10.0 rebounds. Yeah.
