Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Are we just being dramatic or are people actually this worried that the Braves are going to lose on Saturday? It can happen, for sure, but I cannot imagine anyone thinks the Phillies (or Marlins, technically) are truly that much better. It's a tough matchup, but the lack of confidence is so perplexing.

Lack of confidence stems from the way that we played down the stretch after we clinched. It’s tough to get that adrenaline ramped back up. Hopefully we come out strong with a few runs in the first inning.

The lack of execution following the clincher was rough, but I'm not sure we (as in any of us) can say, "it's tough to get that adrenaline ramped back up." It will probably be totally fine the second they step into a playoff atmosphere. It's also part of why they're ramping up activities this week. I'm nervous, but definitely not concerned.

It’s because the playoffs are random and the best team rarely wins.

I mean I get it. If they didn't think Contreras could play the position and that he was a DH only option there was some evidence that his numbers were likely to regress. He also had ML service time. Ruiz is also a game changer on the bases. Perhaps with the new rules the A's viewed this as a potential market inefficiency to exploit. Or at the very least something affordable that would make their team unique.

They really just backed the wrong catcher.

Unfortunately for Ruiz, players aren't allowed to steal first.

Phillies always play us tough, it's not a fun matchup (assuming they end up winning). Not sure Wheeler or Nola could go Game 1, but we lost Game 1 last year. Also, as Cy said, the best team rarely ends up winning in October. Braves might have the best roster, but that doesnt mean crap in a playoff series where it's random.

I agree with this. It is completely random. But it's just weird that we're melting down over the Phillies when the Braves are still a better team, win or lose. Y'all have some damn confidence.

The Phillies played Atlanta perfectly last year, and good for them, but very literally everything that could have gone wrong for the Braves, did. Injuries, bad luck, underperformance, etc.

Wow what a pathetic showing for the Rays. Bounced in 2 games at home.

Rangers will move on to play the O's. Should be a good match up for the O's to move on

Twins put 2 on the board. Honestly, expected the Rays and Jays to advance. Both teams that have given us trouble in the past being knocked out would be ideal. Then again, doesn't matter unless we win the NL

The thing that's kind of funny is that Toronto really turned around only one spot in the line-up because Castro is a switch-hitter and a better fielder than the guy he replaced. I just thought Schneider jumped a couple of innings too early.
