Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Logan Webb being a top 3 finalist for NL CY is off to me. Should have been Strider, Snell, and Gallen

I’m surprised Perdomo was on waivers. He was actually pretty good last year. This is that move that AA makes every offseason that was sneaky but paid off big time.

The Top 50 FA list highlights just how bad the LF market is. Only a few mediocre options, all predicted to get paid a lot more than Rosario’s $9M.

I have to think LF is where AA is going to make his trade involving Grissom…or stick Grissom in LF. Yuck.

How did we get him?

Last season...
3.72 era
2.77 FIP
13.66 k9, 3.41 bb9
0.5 fWAR

Why was he released?

"Perdomo underwent a Tommy John procedure a month ago. He’s likely to miss all of 2024. With no injured list during the offseason, the Bucs felt it best to let him go."

He will take a roster slot all winter, but a .255 xwOBA in 2023 might be worth the investment.

Ahhh... that explains it

Other under the radar moves are the players being activated from the IL. Keeping both Chirinos and Soroka on the roster. Interesting because both are out of options and finished the year injured. It suggests that they'll both be tendered contracts and at the very least they'll be competing for a spot in the rotation. The question would be is Elder (who has options) a part of the competition. Personally though I think I'd have probably rather used their salaries to pick up Yates option.

As for the rest of the activated players Allard, Ynoa, Nick Anderson, Lee, and Wright all have options remaining. Other pitchers on the 40 man with options are Ian Anderson, AJSS, Shuster, Winans, Vines, and Dodd.

Not having enough pitchers with options available was a problem the Braves ran into late in the year so it's good to see it being addressed.

Another week before the deadline to non-tender a guy. I've read that both Soroka and Chironos are non-tender candidates, but nothing would surprise me either way. It's a pretty sparse list of minor league players not already on the 40-man that would have to go on, so there's probably enough elbow room that they don't have to do anything rash. It does make me wonder about the claim of Perdomo. He'll go on the 60-man the first day of the 2024 season, but he'll have to be on the 40-man or waived off it before that date.

Soroka needs to go to one of the 2 Braves farm teams(Royals and Nats) to get a full season(lol) in the majors to work things out. If he had a few more years of team control left I would consider letting him work things out as the 5th starter but theres little upside if he is a FA after 2024.

Just dreaming:
Ohtani for DH
Ozuna to LF for a year or traded while we replace LF with someone better.
Sonny Gray for SP

or
Yamamoto for SP
Trade w/ Rays for Randy Arozarena (LF) and Tyler Glasnow (SP)

Gray is 34 so no way I’d give him 4 years. I’d go 3 but the loss of 2 draft picks and the international money may be to much for AA to stomach. I think Montgomery would be my play on the FA market. Lefty fixing to turn 31 and is from the area. With Fried as good as gone after this year we’ll need another lefty to fill the spot in the rotation so he fits the bill. Dude is pretty consistent.
