Official Around Baseball 2023 Thread

Thinking if Nashville and Salt Lake City get the expansion teams, this is how I could see the new division alignment looking like. This includes two teams changing leagues:

NL East: Mets, Nationals, Phillies, Pirates
NL North: Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Reds
NL South: Braves, Marlins, Rays, Nashville franchise
NL West: Dodgers, Giants, Padres, Rockies

AL East: Blue Jays, Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees
AL North: Guardians, Tigers, Twins, White Sox
AL South: Astros, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Royals
AL West: Angels, A’s, Mariners, Salt Lake City franchise

This is about how I see it unfolding. I do think it makes more geographic sense to keep the Diamondbacks in the NL and have the Rockies flip to the AL to be with the Texas teams and Kansas City.

The scheduling also seems like it would be pretty straightforward:
14 games against each division opponent x 3 = 42
6 games each against other 12 league opponents = 72 (114)
3 games each against 16 teams in other league = 48 (162)

This is gold all the way around. Absolutely love it. And of course Angel Hernandez is involved. Also, for anyone still wondering why Harper gets called a douche, this is why. A bad call? Sure. But not egregious. If it's Joe Rando at the plate with 21 career plate appearances, I would say 9/10 umps still ring him up. But Harper likely gets the those cals most of the time. His reaction is douchey and further cements his douchiness status.

I think this is pretty egregious, and I’m sure Harper knows Hernandez well and is tired of him being an absolute joke. I hope he told him what a joke he is. Didn’t angel get uninvited from doing postseason games?

Don't get why Harper would snap like this in the 3rd inning with no one on base, but the call was flat-out terrible. Probably the worst check-swing call I've seen this season.

Bat was like half way over the plate. It wasn't that egregious. Bad call, but again, Rando Joe gets rung up on this exact call all the time and no one cares. Certainly no one runs down the baseline to yell at the ump. Harper is a douche-nozzle doing douche-nozzle things.

So your argument is it should be accepted because he makes bad calls versus randoms all the time. That doesn’t not make it a bad call. I think if it was another ump Harper probably only shows frustrations. But because it was from a guy who thinks he is bigger than the game it pissed him off. It wasn’t the call that made Harper lose it. It was Angel.

I never said it doesn't make it a bad call. I said it wasn't egregious. There's a difference. The foul tip the other night that scored a run for the Cubs, now THAT was egregious. A bad call on a check swing happens pretty frequently.

Honestly, it's a win-win. Both guys come out looking bad here. Harper makes an ass out of himself and Angel once again shows he is not a good ump.

Now show the part how he made the security guard find the kid who caught the helmet so he could sign it for him.

Can you please find an example of a check swing even close to as bad as the one Angel made yesterday?

It’s the worst I can remember seeing.

I'm not aware of aware of a way to search such things. Typically players just accept the decision (even bad ones) and move on. I can't recall a time a player charged from home plate to a scream at a baseline ump.

Harper definitely made it seem like it was personal, must be history there

Like most groups protecting their membership, a few awful people make the entire group look bad. It’s a joke MLB can’t address the fact 4-5 umps don’t belong in the game.

The umps must have a strong union.. there are guys who clearly don't belong in the game and probably a big population of minor league guys who do deserve the job. But these clowns get to keep their job regardless of the video evidence showing otherwise.

Imagine defending Angel ****ing Hernandez.

The funny thing. There are now official court documents showing that Angel Hernandez is a garbage ump. It won't change his employment status but it's ****ing hilarious that MLB came out and said you suck bro.
