Says who? Cumberland was a college draftee but where did he start and end last season? And now Cumberland is still in Rome with Anderson and Wilson and they were all drafted last season. So this doesn't hold true for all prospects.

True, but one would certainly hope that a guy taken in the top 10 would be more ready than Cumberland.

I think the key clause in his sentence is "ending up at." If Cumberland had hit in Danville, there's the possibility he could have been promoted. But we also have to consider that, as a catcher with some defensive concerns, Cumberland needed development behind the plate, so that probably would have kept him in Danville even if he hadn't struggled with the bat.

I don't think any of us have any idea where particular draftees will end the season, but if a guy like Haseley would come into Danville and hit .400 for the first two weeks, my guess is the Braves will have to pick up the remaining time on his housing lease.

I understand that but the same could be said for the HS guy as well. With the Braves aggressive approach at promoting guys who's to say that Lewis could be on the same path if he hits .400 in the GCL or Danville? I understand that there's a slightly lower risk with a college guy and he should be more advanced than the HS guy. I just want the BPA.

how are we measuring BPA... many rankings has Hanseley higher than Adell and Beck.

Shanks (I know, I know) interviewed Jim Callis from Pipeline: https://soundcloud.com/macontelegraph/callis-060517

Says he has heard the Braves more on Adam Haseley lately than Royce Lewis. He also said he has heard the Braves in on a ton of players at 5.

He has heard a lot of rumors about Tampa going cheap at 4 with Beck or Adell. Also sounds like McKay isn't in much play in the top 3 according to him.

I have stopped listening to anything Law has said in a long time.

Yeah, I have no issue with somebody's opinion differing from the norm. But Adell not in the top 100 is obviously just him trying to make a point. He has strong opinions, which is fine, but while it can lead you to be right it can also lead you to calling Freddie Freeman a 2B hitter and Chris Sale a reliever.

If Haseley is a plus defender with a plus hit tool then I would lean towards him more so than Lewis even if Lewis has the higher ceiling. Honestly I would be fine with either player at this point.

Callis wrote today that we like McKay as a full-time hitter. That makes me feel a little bit better about him, but obviously the 1B only thing makes it tough.

I wonder if he's athletic enough to play a corner OF spot. That's probably the only way I'd like picking him.

If he truly has a plus hit and power tool then I wouldn't mind. How much ground could he possibly need to cover with Ender in CF and Acuna in RF?

So was Gilmartin, Hursh or heck even Minor the BPA when they were drafted? And all 3 were low ceiling, safe picks.

I haven't seen anybody give him a plus grade on anything. He's average/above-average across the board, with the possible exception of power.

If it's Lewis, he probably starts in the GCL and then heads to Danville if he shows he's ready for the move. I doubt very much that any HS player the Braves draft this year will play in Rome.

Just wrapped up an interview with David Rawnsley on XM - compared Gore very favorably to Allard (and mentioned the fact that Allard was likely the best arm availiable in his draft as well). Said he may also move really fast.

Callis did say that he doesn't think there's much of a chance Gore falls to us at 5.

I mostly agree. I don't think he's a reach at 5, I think he could represent good value there, but I would rather go elsewhere.

I think he would be a pick that says we are ready to win. I am starting to fear that the FO is going to start to press to win next year.. 2017 didn't work, so they are going to double down to get it going in 2018... They might be thinking Hanseley will be ready mid season 2018 a la Bergman. I am not against Hanseley, but I don't want THAT to be the reason we draft him.
