Clowney to have microfracture surgery.
Falcons have dodged that bullet so far. If he had fallen, we would have taken him im sure.
Really Matthews may have been the most impactful player the Falcons were considering who they drafted. Of course there are different systems so it's hard to compare, but Mack and Clowney haven't been much of anything. Falcons do need someone who cna flat out get to the QB across from Bierman, the Babineaux DE experiement is a failure. but Bierman has been a solid DE. Not great, not elite but he would start on most teams. Looking at draft position, Falcons should be able to get someone like Beasley if they make the playoffs or somoene like FOwler if they don't. The other key is they need to take 2, unless a great value pick at a lesser position of need (safety, RB, LB) is there they need to use their first 3 picks to get 2 defensive ends and a right tackle.
Something like Beasley, Odighizuwa and Sambrailo. They need that second DE to rotate in, if they make those picks, re-sign BIerman, maybe resign Peters, but I probably wouldn't. Their DL would look much better. At DE they would have their first 2 picks, Biermann, and Massaquoi as their primary rotation, on the DTs, they'd have Soliai, Jackson, Hageman and Babineaux rotating. I think the issue they've hit is they don't have the depth on line to rotate. I watched a lot of the great Jim Johnson Eagles defenses who made use of lesser talents and they did that largely by rotation.
Falcons have a few tough choices in the offseason, depending on what the guys want. For FA they have Osi, Spoon, Biermann, Bryant, Quizz, Peters, McClain, Antone Smith, Mike Johnson, CLiff Matthews, Yates, Arenas, Wilson, Lowery and Weems. WHile none of thos eguys are indisposable. THe more pressing issue is Julio Jones being on the last year of his deal, they have to lock him up first, thne go from there. For me, SPoon is interesting, obviously a great LB, and a great leader, but he has been out for basically the last 2 years. How much dough would he want?
