I too like the Soler move in a shopvac. But AA seems to be running on fumes and is now trying things to cover other bad things. But he is just closing the window more and more every move. He needs to push in this year with a good starter and hope to win another title. This team is becoming a mess more and more.

Well Duvall had just had a very good year last year so it’s not like that was a bad deal at the time. Rosario was a stop gap until the deadline. Getting worked up about those moves is silly
 
I'm a fan of the move. This team has outstanding pitching that is good enough to win a WS. The biggest improvement from the offense should come internally by just getting Harris and Albies back, plus Olson being even decent vs. what he's been.

It's just been a killer to have more than 1-2 guys in a line-up that are simply not threats. A team running out Kelenic, Rosario, and Duvall vs. righties, plus Arcia at short and replacement level second baseman (until Albies is back) is simply just in dire need of players that can do damage. I know the WAR / defense would say Soler isn't anything great, but I'm also a believe that sometimes the problem is simpler than that - we need guys that can hit the baseball hard and far. Soler is a good bet to do that and it's not like we've had great defense in left field anyways, so I do view this as a major, major upgrade vs. what we'd been running out.

Yeah because of the DH penalty. We weren’t talking overall value. We were talking hitter. But yes obviously Ozuna has been better. Bad oversight by me… but he’s certainly now the second best hitter and will play the OF
 
going over Soler savant page nothing really different versus other years outside EV is down a little over 1 mph... wonder if balls and that crap ass park play into his numbers being a little down so far.

that bat tracking feature is cool.. but I bet it gets tweaked more.. shows both Olson and Soler swing around 75mph but Soler has a little longer swing.. nacho shows his bat speed is sitting around 68mph where league average is 71.5
 
Soler has been better than I gave him credit for. He is overpaid but for 2 more years I can live with it if it means actually having some depth on the roster. Kelenic can essentially backup 4 positions.


What this really tells me is Fried is long gone. We might offer 6 years 150 million but that's close to the max we could offer and stay under the luxury tax to reset the penalties. I am not the biggest fan of Wily Adames but the only need I see with any chance of improvement is SS. I know people hate Olson but he will get all the chances in the world to turn it around. If we signed Adames the whole roster is locked up for 2+ years other than Iglesias.

Not getting worked up over those moves…I used them as illustration that the Soler move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, because AA‘s strategy seems to be to bring any affordable piece of the 21 team back.

That sounded disrespectful maybe, but that's what the waiver wire is for - replacement-level players that change teams all the time. They're still major league caliber ballplayers, which is a very select group. But within that group, they don't have any special skills that would increase their value compared to other players.

Because the Phillies stopped ****ting horseshoes along with actually having to play above .500 teams. They are 2 games below .500 since June 12.

If we hadn't **** the bed after the break and simply gone 6-4 over our last 10 games, we'd be sitting 4.5 back right now.

The Phillies are doing exactly what everyone expected, but perhaps even worse. They had a hot streak fueled by unsustainable luck, but now they've come back down to earth and are struggling to find consistency.

Unfortunately, the Braves have also **** the bed most of the season. Though, the expected W/L has the two teams within 3.5 games of each other.
 
Luckily the Phillies didn't improve very much at the deadline. Had they gotten Crochet or Flaherty and/or traded for a hitter like Rooker or Arozarena, I would feel much less positive about potentially winning the division.
 
I know hope is fun. But I do hope that you guys realize how hard to lose a 7 game lead with 50 something games left will be. Especially against a team that has been the best in baseball for 100+ games.
