Rosenthal: Braves players frustrated with Fredi; he has "lost the clubhouse"

Agree entirely. It's all too easy to think the guy is a dope, regardless of whether or not he is one, because his post-game PCs just sound...well, bad, just as you describe.

One pet peeve of mine is that he always asks the reporters to fill in little details about the game for him. Like last night: "What did he have? Five strikeouts?" He does it OVER and OVER, and even if it's just a rhetorical tic, the sum impression is that he's not engaged. Dude, take 30 seconds to peep at the box score before you sit down and talk to the press.
It's unacceptable for a professional coach to sound like he doesn't have his stuff together. Being a coach or teacher is mostly acting. It's his job to sound sharp and authoritative, or at least learn how to fake it. It looks like he's learned how to just get by and isn't concerned with improving his game.

I can't believe he doesn't employ a professional speech coach to teach him some new tricks. That part of his job is probably bigger than making out the lineup.

Wonder if Mike Scioscia could be an option if the Angels decide to part ways after another disappointing season.

Who said he wanted to come here?
I think he was pretty locked in on the Cubs gig from the get-go.

I swear I thought I read he listed 3-4 teams he would go manage for, and the Braves were one of them, and we declined to talk to him.

Did any of you guys who want to scapegoat McDowell now ever think that maybe those guys just aren't that good? I know it'd be hard to believe since some rubberstamp everything John Hart has done or will do.

Not a chance IMO.

Scioscia *ss-kissed his way into Moreno's heart in Anaheim and has constantly completely undermined ANY decision that should be made at the GM/President level.

Not going to happen here unless Liberty cleans house and fires McGuirk, Schuerholz, Hart, Cox, AND Coppy.

yeah, it's not like we've brought in a bunch of can't-miss studs in recent years.

I ask this question often, why do people have such a hard on for Scioscia?

Gets expensive rosters and doesn't do anything with them. There was talk when Angels GM quit there was a rift between Scioscia and the front office about analytics (Scioscia going against it).

Yes he won a world series yeats ago, but now that he's gotten big payrolls from Arte he hasn't done much at all. At least Bobby still made it to the Series or LCS. Scioscia's teams have struggled to get out of the first round just like Bobby's last few years.

I thought Jair Jurgens had a future. Medlen, Beachy etc etc etc . Minor, Venters etc etc
Tommy Hanson had a future.

Had the Braves developed even 2 of the (those ) pitchers they've gone through in the McDowell years we'd be talking about them in the same sentence as the Cardinals.

In all the years he has been PC one pitcher. Craig Kimball has escaped with his arm still attached

The bullpen is currently Vizcaino and a bunch of guys who may never log another big league inning after the 2015 season. I have some hope for Marksberry (who really shot through the system) and maybe McKirahan (who is here for Rule 5 reasons), but everyone else out there is pretty bad.

Minor had a really good season before injuries kept hitting him.
Are we blaming McDowell for injuries? Honest question.
None of the other guys you mentioned were thought to be studs. Medlen, Beachy, and Jurrjens had more success in the major leagues before injuries happened than many would have thought.
But if we're blaming McDowell for injuries, I think substantiation is important here.

"Are we blaming McDowell for injuries? Honest question"

I find it too coincidental - perhaps it is organizational pitching philosophy. Training, off day routines etc

But,
9 years into his tenure he should have more than a little input
even stretching to the model of pitcher he wants to coach.

Or, he is nothing more than Fredi's drinking buddy like Art Fowler was to Billy Martin.
My sense is those days are gone

Which clubhouse has he lost? There's only like 3 players from the opening day roster.
