And he doesn't understand the whole point that you're making.

Random acts of criminality are much more destabilizing for a society as opposed to acts where the parties are connected.

Pretty basic for most to understand but I guess academics need not apply.
 
I don't want to give Newsom too much credit. But the top 4 states in the past decade for per capita GDP growth are:

1) New York
2) Massachusetts
3) Washington
4) California

It so happens that those states also have highly educated workforces. In general incomes have been growing faster for well-educated workers. That is probably the reason those states are doing well in per capita GDP growth and why the bottom states in that league table are the usual suspects of states with the lowest levels of educational attainment.
 
When the government spends 100B on making homelessness work and building a train that will.never get built, easy to pump those numbers baby!

Their citizens that are fleeing don't know what's good for them.
 
California attracts highly educated young people both from other states and from other countries.

It loses older less well educated workers.

Those migration patterns also probably work to pump up its per capita GDP numbers.

And of course the Cal system is a marvel that pumps out huge numbers of highly skilled graduates in STEM and other fields to help its high tech sector continue to lead the world.

I don't discount the possibility, however, that California could learn some thangs by studying how Arkansas and Oklahoma do it. One must be humble and willing to learn from best practices elsewhere.

California has lost population for the first time in a century.

You are free to pretend that is a showing of good health. You are an academic, afterall

They are doing quite poorly with real GDP.

You found one site that is feeding you crap.

States that are doing quite well would not be losing population.

The fact that can't figure that out says a lot about you.
 
It seems to me a good idea to have some low cost housing spread out across every municipality rather than warehousing all of it in a ghetto.

Among other things it gives more children from low-income families a chance to attend school in a good school district. Something I favor on a more comprehensive basis by expanding vouchers and other means of increasing choice and competition in education.

NIMBYism is strong in California and has contributed to its shortage of affordable. It is good to see a push back against it. Even if it runs against the "rights" of rich folks to live in insular enclaves.
