Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

Here's a fun quote from the mayor of San Francisco

Wonder what she means by "destroyed our city"??

"You know what? There is a mother****ing emergency in the Tenderloin. And we are not going to stand for it anymore. We are not going to let people die on our streets. We are not going to let people just take over our streets, defecate on our streets, shoot up on our streets, sell drugs on our streets. We're not going to let it happen anymore. We are going to come down hard. We are going to end all the bull**** that has destroyed our city. It's time. The reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end. And it comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies, and less tolerant of all the bull**** that has destroyed our city."

The top 4 states in per capita GDP growth the past 10 years:

Massachusetts
Washington
New York
California

It is kinda unfair that high-income states widened the gap like this. Same with life expectancy, educational attainment, various measures of health.

Yet California has the worst poverty and homelessness in the nation.

The problem is that you have big money from a few individuals who skew the stats.

The rich are doing well and everybody else is getting screwed. That's what's causing the shift to the south.

Modern libs have effed up these states.

we gotta fight to save our country

you're right

the mayor should not be using that kind of language...it exaggerates the situation and inflames passions

My son goes to the comedy clubs in the Tenderloin every week to do his standup act. It has always been a rough neighborhood. Sometimes rougher. Sometimes a little less. But always rough.

I’d also point out to anyone that’s seen the Wire, people desperate to lower stats know how to do so without real impact to n the population lol

Maybe someone from Oklahoma can explain what the drama is all about.

Is this related to someone over there trying to get bibles into schools saying its a historical document and proposed rules for buying them that suspiciously makes only the Trump bible fit the qualifications?

The sad reality is the toxic intersection of politics, culture, religion and ideology is why states like Oklahoma are so far behind and falling further behind every year. And maga wants to make America like Oklahoma.

Who has said “make America Oklahoma “?

I have heard “please don’t make America California “ though

Interesting data on trends in rural and urban family structures.

https://wapo.st/4hZPFzv

From the article:

"Between 2005 and 2022, the proportion of rural children living with two married parents declined at more than twice the rate of urban children. White, Black and Hispanic children in rural areas were all affected by this decline, while at the same time the proportion of urban White children living with married parents remained stable, and the proportion of urban Black children living with married parents rose. There are now sizable rural-urban gaps in the percentage of White children living with married parents across all regions, ranging from 5.7 percentage points in the Midwest to 12.3 percentage points in the Northeast."

In spite of the sensational videos of urban disorder, it is in fact rural America that has been in decline in recent decades. This has given rise to the politics of nostalgia, which animates the right these days. One interesting aspect of this politics of nostalgia has been a preference for highlighting disorder in urban areas rather than addressing the decline and decay in rural areas. The dopamine hit is preferred to the hard work of finding solutions.
