Spring Training 2015

When have the Braves brass done that recently? They've constantly been one to kick someone out the door and then slam the door on their asses. Seriously aside from retired players, and maybe Ross, who had a pleasant farewell from Atlanta? Leo Mazzone? Frank Wren? Dan Uggla? Jeff Francoeur? Derek Lowe? Bob Wickman? Could go on from here but I think you should by now get the point. Braves use you, abuse you, then tell you to go **** yourself all too often. The fact they haven't done that with Jason and Justin indicates they're probably decent guys the Braves pray they'll have a chance at again.

Salty.

Does it hurt realizing the facts? Braves have developed quite a reputation (IMO) on not leaving on the best of terms with players, coaches, whatever. They're content with "lifing" guys who fit their mold. But everyone else pretty much leaves then beat writers are writing about issues. You can point to so many guys out there. Some obviously had issues. Escobar clearly had an issue with Cox or vice versa. That was clear. But aside from that. Do you seriously forget the **** that happened when Leo left us to go to Baltimore? Or any number of other former braves? ex-bravitis is a disease that does exist.

And before anyone mentions him... no we shouldn't get Cody Ross.

I think the right solution would be for the 25th man to be able to play a competent CF. Since we've jettisoned that approach, I do think that a broken-down Cody Ross is a better option than Ciriaco for a RH bench bat. I think Ross would outperform Ciriaco against LHP by a wide margin actually.

Fredi is probably putting a premium on Ciriaco's position flexibility since he is playable at 2B, SS, 3B and LF. Ross would only be able to play corner OF, but I would argue that we really don't gain much by the extra coverage that Ciriaco gives us in the IF. He'll be 6th on the depth chart at 3B, 4th on the depth chart at SS, and 5th on the depth chart at 2B.

we're going young...except when we're not.

All I am saying is that if the Braves thought as much of him as about half this board did, he would still be a Brave. Obviously that is not the case. Funny thing, you aren't hearing the Heyward is a "great kid" quotes and we wish him well coming from the Braves brass. Oh and on CJ I agree, should have been on first bus out of town this winter were he tradeable.

Wow, classy.

Regarding Heyward, John Hart was in the broadcast booth for a Spring Training game that I saw a couple weeks ago, and he was effusive in his praise for Jason Heyward as a player and as a person.

Maybe next time you intimate something like that, you'd consider also including some substantiation? You've implied this type of thing before. Do you have anything to back it up?

I'm going to guess not.

There is no reason to character assassinate Heyward here. He gave no inclination of being a bad guy at all. He just wanted to get paid what he is worth which is what every single human being wants.

This thread has taken some odd turns in the passed few pages and none of them are positive.

Maybe Zeets cousin could comment on that?

That has to be one of the worst CF combos in Atlanta Braves history.

Ugh, yeah. Neither of those guys is even a CF in any meaningful sense of the word. They'll be standing in between the left fielder and the right fielder, I guess.

I didn't "character assassinate" anybody. Its just that you are not hearing the "we hate we had to do this" like you did with Millwood years ago. There was regret in that trade. There wasn't much here. There was no public hesitation you might say. I don't have to back anything up. The silence does it for me.
