Sydney Hostage Crisis

I get to agree/disagree with everyone on this one.

First, he appeared to be acting alone (or in a very small group). Appears to be mentally unstable. Was an Iranian refugee who obviously didn't "melt." I can see both sides of the argument about immigrants being allowed to keep semblances of their traditions. But at some juncture, it has to dawn on immigrants that "when in Rome . . ." on some basic principles, particularly separation of church and state.

The thing with ISIL is that they've brought a new angle to the recruitment of terrorists with their effective use of social media, making the lone wolf angle almost impossible to curb. I doubt that our activities in the Mideast had much to do with this guy one way or the other. He was a nut with a grievance.

I believe Australian citizens comprised the largest nationality of those killed in the resort killings staged by terrorists back in 2002 and while that didn't occur in Australia, it probably made them beef up their security measures.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the Australian cabinet approved on 3 October for RAAF Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter bombers to begin airstrikes against Islamic State militants. Abbott said "It is in our national interest that we do so, it is in the interests of civilisation that we do so. It is in everyone's best interests that the murderous rage of the ISIL death cult be checked and rolled back and that's what we're determined to do."

On 6 October Air Chief Marshall Mark Binskin announced two Super Hornets had conducted armed combat missions over Iraq although no armaments were expended. An Australian Air task Group KC-30A and an E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft have also been flying in support to fighter bombers belonging to coalition forces. The KC-30A performs airborne refueling for coalition aircraft.[186] Binskin said "One of our Super Hornet packages on the first night … had an identified target which it was tracking and that particular target moved into an urban area where the risks of conducting a strike on that target increased to a point where it exceeded our expectations of collateral damage, so they discontinued the attack at that point."

On 9 October Prime Minister Tony Abbott confirmed that RAAF Super Hornets had been involved in a "strike missions on an ISIL position in Iraq". The aircraft dropped two bombs onto an isolated building which ISIL was using as a command and control centre.

As of 17 October the Royal Australian Air Force had conducted 43 combat sorties over Iraq. Recent strikes had targeted equipment facilities, with "at least two" resulting in ISIL casualties after Australian aircraft had increased the number of missions flown to allow US and coalition forces to assist Kurdish fighters around Kobani, in northern Syria.

Glad the Prime Minister of Australia understands. Bravo!

I just love how terrorism is rationalized by some on this forum. Its so disappointing to know that there are people out there who just don't understand how diabolical radical Islam can be and has been for centuries.

No schit.

Muslim is not a race, but if you want to throw racism against that religion, I would be number 1 and proud to say it.

Treating kids and women like schit is deplorable on so many levels, it is not funny.

agree with most of this

Its as if that doesn't matter to some people on this board and in the world. That didn't happen because we bombed them, that happens because they are ****ED UP PEOPLE! For anyone to defend radical Muslims in any shape of form is a crime against humanity in my eyes.

I don't understand why any American who value their freedom and religious affiliation or atheism would accept the Muslim religion? They treat children and women like absolutely schit, both Sunni and Shia. If you are a woman, you get mutilated, you are not a person, but at thing to be exploited. The kids are brainwashed and pray you are male because as a female, you can be SOLD to a bidder and your life is basically over. A f-ucking human being that can't even live your life.

We got asshole Muslims in our country who try to do this, like my best friend I told you about. We almost got into the fight because what he did with his wife in front of me. I told him if he ever do that again in front of me, I would beat his ass in an inch of death and he know I could it. I am not a small person by any means and trained. He finally wizened up and ditched the religion after his family threatened to disown him.

I really despise when you constantly put words in people's mouth. Why don't you respect me enough not to completely belittle my argument by formulating a made up one?

would you consider drone strikes from the US that kill women and children an act of terrorism? This is a yes/no question.

collateral damage. Using them as shields is beyond horrible.

Look it up. They are not targeting women and children. Hell the way they are treated, death might be a better. Clitoris getting cut out or sold to the highest bidder to be raped over and over.

This argument has proven to be false over and over again

No because the US is targetting those that inflict pain and suffering on the world. Terrorists directly target innocents. I'm sorry we don't see it the same way.

It's 2014 not 1056.

Society has evolved, religion has evolved, but towel heads want to keep it like 1056. It doesn't jive with civilized society and women and children are being hurt and killed and victimized for it.

I don't agree with drone strikes, never have but if you going to cry and whine about women and children, take it up with the idiots who used them as shields.

Then how do you explain the hundreds of thousands of documented innocent civilian deaths? Or is it OK, because we weren't trying to kill them?

Unless you think that people in the middle east are walking around with women and children tied around them as "shields" then I'm not sure how you think they're being used as shields against drone strikes

Um, really?

I wish it wasn't that way. The alternative is never retaliating and just bending over and letting the terrorists bomb and kill who they please with no reprucussion.
