The Trump Presidency

So when did Snowden and Assange fall out of favor with certain folk on here? I thought they were heroes? Good guys. I'm having a hard time keeping up I suppose.

I have always been ambivalent toward Assange and thought Snowdon a coward compared to Chelsea Manning who not only had a conviction but the courage of that conviction. Instead of running he/she stood up.

Snowdon is a snitch. No more or less.

I am surprised that after the revelations of 2005 detailing widespread surveillance by the Intellegence community any one would be alarmed by Wiki leaks, 2012 or 2016 or this past week. I took for granted where all of that was going and never once thought "oh well that will shut that up" --

As to the Wiki revelations this past election cycle there was nothing startling . A campaign for POTUS is not how they say "beanbag".

Charges of corruption which were popular in some circles I compared to the formula for the area of the circle. The wiki revelations provided the obvious pi and the r. But our "mathematicians" forgot about the square

WikiLeaks says DNC, Podesta hacks were a “false flag operation” by CIA, designed to undermine President Trump

this is so illogical that garmel must have come up with this storyline

The genius of the CIA plan was realizing that in order to go after Trump, they would have to help him get elected first.

BRILLIANT

How awesome was it for Paul Ryan to have a powerpoint demonstration to show the world he doesn't understand insurance

Yeah, Hannity is on this trip, too. This is sort of brilliant in its chutzpah. Liberals are cuckoo conspiracy theorists for supporting the IC consensus that Russia tried to interfere in the election, but this byzantine and evidence-free conspiracy theory totally explains it.

it's as absurd as the obama tap'd the phones etc and then decided to do nothing

or the voting rigged, that's why Trump lost the popular vote. cause that's what they wanted to do, run up the score but lose the election by 70k votes over 3 states

But the latest CIA crimes constitute an unprecedented assault allowing the deep state to infiltrate and attack us through malware embedded in our iPhones, Android computer applications as well as smart TVs in order to listen in and shockingly violate every last vestige of our decimated privacy. Even while Samsung Smart TVs are turned off, the monitoring device is still secretly turned on and eavesdropping on our conversations. Another insidiously dangerous feature to this CIA malware is that it can extract usernames, passwords, and Wi-Fi keys expanding invasive access to the victim’s shared network and other connected devices.

the deep state

i really have enjoyed this new main stream conspiracy being used now. hehe

So is the argument that:

1. the revelations of the CIA being able to hack into all electronics and can always be listening on American citizens is not true

2. Nobody cares

i love wikileaks posts this and it's religion to ya

we keep finding lies, people resigning and recusing themselves over meetings with Russians but you make fun of that

seems like a false flag attack to try to discredit the CIA and make people fall in line with the President

So you didn't answer the question (shocking!)... but I take it you think the revelations are not true?

OK. That's fine. But there is more evidence for it being true than your Russia hysteria.

Hope people understand that hacks can be disguised so the new revelations about potential nefarious actions by the CIA cast even more doubt on what involvement Russia may or may not have had.

Is this a reasonable series of statements?

As Information Age technologies advance, people increasingly have access to iteratively more sophisticated networked tools for better communication, productivity, and entertainment.

With the broadening of access to such tools, new opportunities exist for:

1) criminals to exploit those tools for nefarious purposes.
2) corporations to exploit these tools to gather information on consumers (see Vizio smart tvs collecting customer data w/out permission, Facebook and Google privacy flaps, among many others).
3) state actors to exploit these tools to gather information for either white- or black-hat purposes, depending on your interpretation.

I presume, based on what you've written, that you think all 3 are malign. I share your concern about the possibility of abuse on all 3 fronts. I also accept that the pace of such innovation will continue and that there will always be tension between personal privacy and compromise of same on all 3 fronts.

As for item 3, you're making a leap from "abuse of these tools is theoretically possible" to "abuse of these tools is SOP." I agree with you that the intelligence community's record has been troubling at times, but you're still making a big assumption that the legal safeguards in place are being ignored. I don't begrudge your skepticism--in fact, I share it--but you're still making some pretty bold declarations without supporting facts.
