The Trump Presidency

Hope people understand that hacks can be disguised so the new revelations about potential nefarious actions by the CIA cast even more doubt on what involvement Russia may or may not have had.

Um, how, exactly? Can you expand on this a little bit?

So is the argument that:

1. the revelations of the CIA being able to hack into all electronics and can always be listening on American citizens is not true

2. Nobody cares

I think 1 is probably true. It's kinda naive to assume otherwise.

2 is not. Not being surprised by 1 =/= not caring.

Why can't a scenario of the CIA hacking into podesta/dnc/etc... to create an environment of anti resussia be plausible? Maybe they thought trump was so toxic of a candidate that he still wouldn't win.

Not saying this is probable but it's something to think about. Again, this is only in response to the recent revelations of the CIA going completely out of control.

hahaha

the logic for this theory is so absurd

So when did Snowden and Assange fall out of favor with certain folk on here? I thought they were heroes? Good guys. I'm having a hard time keeping up I suppose.

I'm ambivalent on both. Everyone seems to want complete transparency until they don't. Assange and Snowden are equal opportunity offenders. I don't subscribe completely to Plato's Noble Lie, but there's the old saying about there's two things you don't really want to watch (and I'm paraphrasing a bit) and that's sausage being made and government at work.

But for my fellow denizens on the left, Assange and all the Russia crap didn't lose the election for Hillary. Because I've been in politics, I found the revelations trite because all it really was was campaign insider talk, but I can imagine for someone whose never been involved in politics they would cause some dismay, which is why I say to the uninformed "Never watch The West Wing."

Unbelievable and believable at the same time

Wait, what are the recent revelations about the CIA going completely out of control?

Poor people will take care of themselves? That's literally the dumbest thing I've EVER heard. At my local ER, the poor come in droves, same with the local urgent care clinics. Those people have no clue how to take care of themselves. Cutting any funding for this group will be a disaster, even if we wish they'd try harder. Mainly it will be a disaster for those trying to take care of them.

Are the Rep's really this stupid?

I pretty much agree across the board. I don't think that Snowden is a hero, but I think that the net result of his revelations was probably in the public interest. As has been discussed around here a few times, I think the motives are mostly (but not entirely) irrelevant. Mark Felt leaked to Woodward and Bernstein because he was jealous and disgruntled. His revelations nevertheless served the public interest. It's a tricky issue and a pretty tough tightrope to walk, but I'm generally in favor of the idea that leaks that expose holes in our government's processes and checks and balances are ok, on balance. That comes with the caveat that they can still be dangerous and damaging and subject to prosecution.

I have always thought that Assange was a con man and a narcissist. Like Sen. Sasse, I would't mind seeing him fitted for an orange jumpsuit.

I would echo 50 in being dismissive of the Clintonistas crying about Wikileaks bollixing the election for them. I think it's fair not to lose sight of the fact that they were subject to a criminal invasion, but they are ultimately responsible for not being better at their jobs. Russia hurt, Comey hurt, but they have to be accountable at the end of the day.
